I think your dermatographia may put you at higher risk, but certainly can be managed by a board certified plastic surgeon.  I would urge you NOT to go out of the country for this procedure, because if complications arise, you will not have anyone locally to call for help.

I would say that your dermatographia can be managed. However, I would strongly urge you to have your surgery with a board certified plastic surgeon in your area. A tummy tuck in particular requires extensive post op care. Dermatographia is termed so because any scratch of the skin can leave a raised red mark, similar to allergic reaction. The skin reaction is similar to allergic reaction when examined microscopically.I had operated on at least two patients with dermatographia. I disagree with your primary care MD. You need to be on medication before, during and after surgery.

Thanks for your question. There is no risk posed from your dermatographia but significant risk from your plans for having surgery outside the country. Try googling bad results from foreign surgery. It's not that there are not exceptional surgeons elsewhere, there are, but surgery is totally unregulated in many of the low priced surgical areas.
