I’m currently 6 days post op and I’ve walked about 1/2 mile to a mile each day but I don’t know if I’m not walking enough? What’s a healthy amount of walking I should do per day?

Answer: Walking Thank you for your question. Although post operative instructions do vary from one plastic surgeon to another, my post operative advice is to walk as tolerated and do not lift anything greater than 15 pounds for a full 4 weeks. Best to follow the specific instructions given to you by your plastic surgeon. Good luck.

Answer: Walking after breast surgery Thank you for an excellent question, and congratulations on your recent surgery. While every surgeon's postoperative instructions regarding activity will slightly differ, non-strenuous walking after surgery is probably the one activity where most surgeons will agree that the more the better, as long as you don't feel like you are doing too much. Walking significantly reduces the risks of postoperative medical complications such as blood clots, constipation, and pneumonia, among others. Most surgeons encourage their patients to walk as soon as possible after surgery, starting on the day of surgery. As far as how many miles or hours per day, your body will let you know when you are starting to fatigue, so just pay attention to those signs. It sounds like you are on the right track. If in doubt, ask your surgeon. Once again, congratulations!
