I have one Puffy nipple 6 weeks after gyno op! Is this normal? (photo)

Question

I had gynecomastia surgery exactly 6 weeks ago both lipo/incision. I have worn a compression garment for 5 weeks and followed all the rules/advice religiously but in the last few days my left nipple is getting puffy again. What is going on? why is it happening with only one nipple? Is this Bleeding? swelling? scarring? sagging skin? fat? gland? Is it too early to judge final results? Will this improve and eventually flatten out? Need some reassurance/advice am I worrying needlessly?

You are still early after your surgery.  It is likely that you have some swelling that will get better with time.  Please see your surgeon who can best advise you.

Congratulations on your surgery, I think you will get a good result. Six weeks is early in terms of recovery from your procedure. It appears you are still swollen, causing the puffiness. I recommend you follow up closely with your board certified Plastic Surgeon. If the puffiness doesn't go away in a few months, you may need a small revision. Best of luck!

Yes, it is too early to evaluate the final outcome of the procedure performed; this is best done several months from now. Although online consultants will not be able to reassure you completely, I would not be surprised if you are much happier with the outcome of the procedure performed 3 to 6 months from now. Congratulations on your recent surgery. The soft tissues will take several months to tighten and assume their final contour. Sometimes fluid collections may distort the shape and will need to be drained. Another possibility is returning nerve oversensitivity which may cause the nipple to become erect. This usually resolves over several months. Discuss your concerns with your surgeon.

It is too early to judge your final result.  There will be funny swelling, lumps and bumps for at least the first 4 months.  That being said, if this came up pretty suddenly, you should probably see your doctor just to make sure it isn't a pocket of fluid that needs to be drained.  I hope this helps!

When a peri-areolar incision (around the nipple) is used, and the breast tissue is resected, it is normal to have some lymphatic swelling of the nipple. If the nipple has residual breast tissue, that is good, so it doesn't develop a cup and saucer type depression. My patients wear a vest during the day for 4 weeks, and I keep some reston foam to dry and allow the lymphatic swelling (edema/swelling) to subside. I think you have a good early result and this will continue to improve.
