I just recently visited a plastic surgeon to get Botox around my eyes. I've started noticing a lot of extra skin on my eyelids and find myself not happy looking at pictures of myself and the surgeon mentioned it as well. I've noticed that both of my parents have extra skin on their eyelids as well and was wondering if I'm too young or should I just do it?
Answer: Some people need blepharoplasty at an earlier age. Please be aware that aggressive BOTOX treatments to the forehead can cause the brows to fall making the excess upper eyelid skin much worse. If the photos are following the botox service, you definitely will want the Botox to wear off before moving foreword with upper blepharoplasty. The goal of surgery should be to make a place on the eyelid platform for make up. The fold itself needs to be preserved. Over aggressive surgery will take too much of the upper eyelid fold and give you a surgical look-that is a bad thing. Proceed cautiously and seek several opinions. Carefully study the surgeon's website. If they only have breast surgery on the site, you are in the wrong place for eyelid surgery. If you do not like the results of the eyelid surgeries on the site, it is unlike that your surgery will be any better.

Answer: Is it worth it at age 27 to get Blepharoplasty? In spite of your young age, since you have heavy upper lids that concern you, you may benefit from a very conservative upper lid blepharoplasty. Only you can determine if your eyelid appearance bothers you enough to improve it.Keep in mind that following advice from a surgeon on this or any other website who proposes to tell you what to do based on two dimensional photos without examining you, physically feeling your tissue, assessing your desired outcome, taking a full medical history and discussing the pros and cons of each operative procedure would not be in your best interest. I would suggest that you find a surgeon certified by the American Board of American Plastic Surgery and one who is ideally a member of The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) that you trust and are comfortable with. You should discuss your concerns with that surgeon in person.Robert Singer, M.D., FACSLa Jolla,California

Answer: Blepharoplasty at age 27? Much of the eye and eyelid anatomy is inherited with a very large component of aging thrown in. You have very shallow orbits and mild brow ptosis. Most patients know when it is time to have cosmetic surgery and it is obvious that it is time for you since you are "bothered" by it. Because of the difference in anatomy you should not expect to have eyelids like any other person other than yourself. If you wait several more years (which I do not recommend) you will probably develop a visual field defect and MIGHT get insurance coverage for the surgery of the upper lids.

Answer: Botox, the forehead, and extra eyelid skin occasionally if the forehead is aggressively treated the brow drops or becomes ptotic exacerbating some mild loose scan of the upper eyelid. At being said relatively young people sometimes are anatomically or genetically predisposed to premature dermatochalasis or excess skin. One thing you want to be sure that you do not have is idiopathic swelling or edema of the upper eyelids. Occasionally this appears to be loose skin but is really more an issue of fluid retention which surgery may not help or even make worse. See a good ophthalmologists before proceeding with any eyelid surgery.Chase Lay, MDdouble board-certified facial plastic surgeon

Answer: Blepharoplasty is done at any age, as long as it will make a difference and help you achieve the goals you desire. An exam would be required to help better clarify the potential causes of your excess skin as you want to treat the cause and not the symptom. Find a reputable surgeon in town and have a consultation.
