Can I go back to work right after having a subcision for rolling acne scars?

I have been performing subcisions since 1994. As a rule, I inform my patients that bruising directly under each treated site, that shows through the skin as a small black and blue mark, is not only expected, but desirable, as the bruise fluid contains growth factors and wound healing factors that promote the new, native collagen and elastic fiber synthesis (neocollagenesis, neoelastogenesis) that is the primary objective of the technique. Since with subcision there is really no cutting on the surface, and since the entry sites seal just about immediately after the withdrawal of the treatment needle, makeup can actually even be applied immediately. You might consider using a yellow coverstick, since yellow and purple makes brown, as you may recall from you kindergarten days with colors. After that, you can apply your regular foundation over everything. Good luck with your job interviews.

There is really no downtime for subcision, most people do get some bruising that shouldn't restrict you from work or going out.  Best, Dr. Emer

It depends on whether your subcision procedure is fairly mild or more intense, but in general the bruising from it lasts only a few days. Getting it done friday and expecting to look 100% normal on monday is possible, but if you have significant scarring they may still be some light bruising remaining. I don't think it would be enough to prevent you from going to work, however.

In general, you can expect a small bruise following subcision.  This usually lasts between 2-3 days but can last longer, especially if you are performing a cluster of scars or if one or more scars requires significant release.  Everybody responds differently to the procedure, but most will have bruising that only lasts a few days.  For purposes of job interviews, I suspect that by 2-3 days, even if all of the bruising hasn't resolved, then a little makeup with do the trick!  Good luck.
