How long should I wait after I quit smoking to get subcision for acne scars and botox for frown lines?

Question

I know that smoking damaged collagen and prohibits it's growth. I am a smoker. I want to quit smoking before I have me rolling acne scars corrected with subscision and possibly dermafill as well as botox injections. How long should I wait for the effects of the nicotine to prohibit the benefits I want? Or can I have the procedures right after I stop the smoking? Thanks

you can get treatments while smoking.  Although my recommendation for all patients is not to smoke, it really shouldn't affect the outcome unless you are planning a co2 resurfacing then I would avoid smoking before or after that.  Best, Dr. Emer.

Glad you are finding a good reason to stop smoking! Your heart and lungs will also appreciate it! Stop for 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after, at least, better to stop forever because smoking is also horrible for your skin. Good luck!

It is best to not be smoking if you have subcision since you will heal more quickly and stimulate more collagen.  Botox can be done at any time with regards to smoking.

Hi and thanks for your question.  We always prefer that patients quit smoking before any cosmetic procedure but for what you describe above I would have no problem doing Botox, HA filler, subscision even while you're trying to quit.  I prefer not to do resurfacing laser in patients who smoke.  The sooner you quit, the more collagen you're preserving.  Do it today!!

Usually I request a minimum of 2 weeks prior to the procedure.   It takes some time for the effects of smoking to reverse.   Once you stop just stay a non-smoker.   There is no need to fix your face just so you can get lung cancer.

Smoking tobacco decreases blood flow to the skin.  In addition, the long term side effect is yellowing of the skin. There is no need to delay Botox or Filler once you have stopped smoking.  Even if you continue to smoke, you will still receive benefits from the neuromodulator (Botox, Dysport, Xeomin) and filler.  However, the improvement may not last as long if you continue to smoke.
