I only have a 1 - 2 cm diastasis recti but my lower abdomen swells throughout the day when I eat or drink the smallest amounts so that I end up looking 5 months pregnant. I don’t really have much loose skin and I’m slim. Will a tummy tuck be able to tighten my lower abdomen or is a diastasis repair the only thing that can be done to stop my stomach swelling so much? In which case not really going to help my situation. I’ve spent 18 months with a women’s health trying to tighten my core muscles b

Answer: Tummy muscles Abdominal wall laxity is common after pregnancy. This is corrected during a tummy tuck, along with addressing excess fat and skin. The result is a flatter, tighter tummy. Although strengthening the core is a great idea for your overall health, it is unlikely to correct your concern. I encourage you to visit my webpage to browse my Before/After Gallery. I have helped many patients with concerns similar to yours.

Answer: Rectus diastasis repair is part of a tummy tuck Hi subees, The rectus muscles should sit next to each other in the vertical midline. Rectus diastasis is when they are split, usually due to a history of abdominal wall stretching from weight gain or pregnancy. The full vertical length of the rectus muscles will be exposed during a standard tummy tuck, and the right-to-left tightening (diastasis repair) will restore the muscle's natural anatomy. For many patients, this will correct the abdominal bulging--a set of photos for a patient similar to you is attached. To specifically answer your question, a tummy tuck alone (removal of skin and fat) would probably not correct your issues/concern. Your issue looks more like rectus diastasis, which could be corrected as part of a tummy tuck. Hope this helps.
