Will a future face or neck lift affect otoplasty results?

Question

Im getting otoplasty in a few months and been told I’m not eligible yet for a facelift. However if I chose to have a facelift , will this disrupt the Otoplasty results in a few years . I’m Going to have permanent stitches behind the ears to secure them. I also worry about if i need a necklift in the fiture how this will disrupt my results too.

Thank you for your question. It is indeed a valid thought.

Face lift surgery does not generally go towards the cartilage of the ears, and it's not likely to disrupt the sutures that are used to fold the ear cartilage.

In addition, the skin tightening that works for the lower part of the face and neck produces some tensioning of the ears toward the back rather than toward the front and would typically work together with your otoplasty results.  In principle, there is no conflict between the otoplasty using this technique and a future face lift intervention.

This is a good question. It really should not matter. It sounds like your otoplasty surgeon is going to use furnas sutures. Even if by chance the facelift surgeon cuts the suture, it can replaced very easily at the same time through the same incision.

In general, a future facelift or neck lift should not “undo” a well-healed otoplasty, but the surgical planning has to be careful.

This is because facelift and neck lift incisions often work around the ear, and previous otoplasty can change the scar pattern, the postauricular crease, skin mobility, and sometimes the position of the ear.

If you are planning otoplasty now but may want a facelift or neck lift later, it is worth discussing the long-term plan with both surgeons before surgery. In some patients, the order of procedures matters.

A good facelift plan should avoid excessive tension on the ear and should respect previous scars and blood supply. The goal is to improve the face and neck without distorting the ear shape or position.

So the short answer is: yes, a future face or neck lift can usually still be done after otoplasty, but the surgeon should evaluate your ear position, prior incisions, scar quality, and timing before planning surgery.
