Why do I have a double butt crease? (Photo)

Question

I have had this all my life and I’ve tried to do glute exercises at the gym recently but I just wondered if it’s a waste of time and if it’s something surgery would only be able to fix? I don’t think it fits the description of banana rolls so I don’t really know what’s happening with it and why it’s like that? Is it weak muscle? Fat? I’m 5”4.5 and 62kg I’m hardly overweight and I never have been I’ve always been slim

Indeed it is a variation of a “banana roll” and essentially a normal genetic variation of your skin, fat and connective tissue ligaments in that area. Unfortunately no amount of exercise will change this. Also, beware that liposuction often makes it worse so this is ill advised. Adding volume with buttock implants is ofter helpful, but the only way to completely eliminate this phenomenon is with a lower buttock tuck. However, this comes at the price of a long scar along the entire junction of your buttock and back of the thighs.

The presence of a double butt crease, also known as a "double gluteal fold," can have several possible causes (anatomy and genetics, muscular development, fat distribution, skin elasticity. Non-invasive procedures like radiofrequency, ultrasound, or laser therapy can help tighten the skin and improve the overall appearance of the buttocks. These treatments promote collagen production and can be used in conjunction with exercise and a healthy lifestyle. Liposculpture or surgical excision could also be considered (as surgical options).

This is a banana roll!  Think of it as a deflated balloon with a new fold.  This is best treated with a BBL in my opinion.  All other techniques haven't really resulted in correction.  Best Wishes!!

Hello and thank you for your question. Yes, this is known as the "banana roll".  It is a normal variant and maybe people have very mild version and some worse due to genetics. age, weight/hormone changes can all be factors in how this and other fatty regions around the body change over time. The techniques to tackle this problem involve selective liposuction and fat grafting - in order words removing some of the fat from the "bulging" lower area and redistributing it to the area that is deficient (under/around the crease) to help smooth out the appearance of this region. Meeting with a board certified plastic surgeon for an in person consultation would be a great first step in finding out what may work best for you and your goals!

Thank you for your question. Over the years, I have really focused on the lower buttock droop. I have developed certain techniques to improve this. You are an excellent candidate for a thong lift which is a lower buttock lift. Specifically, it really helps with boxy shaped lower buttocks, rounds out the lower buttock, and removes the redundant extra skin of the lower buttock.  Best wishes to you.

Hello, thanks for your question and photo. Double butt crease can have several causes. The most common and simple is genetics.  First of all, you must consult a board-certified plastic surgeon for a physical exam. You can repair it with a non-surgical therapy to dissolve and eliminate fat deposits, such as cryolipolysis, laser, radiofrequency, or others. Besides, you have the surgical option with Lipo & fat transfer. Good luck!

You do have double gluteal folds.  These may be reduced with fat transfers, and/or release of the bands directly under the creases.  Sometimes removing skin in the crease alleviates it, but the scar is the tradeoff.

Oh, when skin is compressed around joints with high mobility, the excess skin sometimes forms of skin fold or skin crease. An easy example to understand is the fold on the lower abdomen when we are sitting down. Everybody understands the concept because it’s easy to conceptualize.
So if the skin bunch is up on the lower, abdomen in a sitting position, something needs to Bunch up when we extend our hips in an upright standing position, which is the skin on the back of the thigh being pushed up into the buttocks. In some people, this skin redundancy creates a skin fold and that fold is sometimes referred to as the banana roll.
It is a normal anatomic, finding that is common and does not need intervention or correcting.
It is often unsuccessfully treated with the use of Liposuction. The problem is not related to fat distribution, so Liposuction typically fails to improve the situation, and generally causes more problems than it does good.
The crease is formed by skin redundancy, and if there was a correct treatment, it would be skin excision, which would leave a visible scar.
If you look in the mirror while flexing your hips, leaning forward, you’ll see that the crease smooths out, and eventually goes away.
I recommend no treatment.
