Can I get a dermal piercing in the chest now that I'm 8 months post-op breast augmention?

Hello. In April 2022 I had a BA with the implant placed behind the muscle. I had my derma pericings in my left chest removed for surgery and now want to have them replaced. Is it now safe to do so seeing as I am 8 months post op.

At 8 months after breast augmentation, many patients are healed enough for normal activity, but a chest dermal piercing is different because it creates a skin opening near the breast and implant area. The main concern is infection tracking into deeper tissues, especially if the piercing is close to the implant pocket, incision, or thin/tight skin.

I would get clearance from your plastic surgeon before replacing it. If they agree, use a very experienced piercer with strict sterile technique, avoid old scars or any area directly over the implant, and watch closely for redness, swelling, drainage, increasing pain, fever, or warmth. If any of those occur, remove the jewelry only under guidance and contact your surgeon promptly.

As long as the dermal piercing is superficial enough and placed as sterily as possibly, you shouldn't have any issues as this point. Also touch base with your primary surgeon as well prior to getting a dermal piercing as well.

I don’t think any plastic surgeon would think it is a good idea to have piercings around breast implants. The risk may be low but the surgeon doesn’t want to deal with something that might cause a problem
