Answer: Recessed chin In the single photo, it appears that you have a recessed chin. Placing a chin implant will improve your overall facial balance. The procedure is done in the office with sedation anesthesia.

Answer: Chin implant surgery may be considered. Based on your singular photo, I agree that you have a slightly recessed chin appearance. Chin implant surgery is relatively straightforward and can be performed with just local anesthetic. With minimal inconvenience for most people. Please consider visiting a reputable facial plastic surgeon for a consultation with an examination for definitive advice. I hope this helps, and I wish you well moving forward. Sincerely, Dr. Joseph

Answer: Chin implant Based on your photo, your chin does appear slightly small, and a chin implant might help improve your profile and overall facial balance. However, the best way to determine whether a chin implant would give you the desired outcome is through 3D computer imaging and simulation. This approach allows for a detailed analysis of the shape and proportions of your chin, not only in profile view but also in oblique views. These perspectives are important because the perception of facial shape and balance depends on multiple angles and subtle relationships between features. With 3D imaging, you can visualise potential outcomes and understand how a chin implant might enhance your profile while harmonising with your other facial features. I recommend consulting with a qualified surgeon who offers 3D imaging to explore this option in more detail. This will help you make an informed decision about whether a chin implant is right for you.

Answer: Understanding, chin shape The chin or mentalis region of your mandible is the tip under your lower lip. If you look at your profile picture and follow the contour from your lower lip, you’ll see that your chin project forward. This is the shape of your chin. The ideal candidate for a chin implant are those who do not have projection of their chin. This means that if you follow the contour of the lower lip, it slopes backwards, not forward. Lots of people have an underdeveloped mandible, but this may or may not be related to the shape of the chin. In your case, the area of deficiency is in the body of the mandible, which is behind your teeth, not so much in the chin itself. Adding chin augmentation if the chin already has forward, projection can look over treated and appear to be a little masculine. I suggest consulting with oral surgeons or plastic surgeons in your community to see what they have to say. Before considering any procedure, make sure they show you lots of before, and after pictures of previous patients who have similar facial profiles. Make sure you bring pictures of yourself to use as reference during the consultation. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
