5ft6, 132lbs - Can swelling/slight loose skin above c-section scar be corrected? (Photos)

Question

I had a C-section delivery 2and half months ago, and have been doing alot of walking and light core exercises, I however can’t seem to get rid of this slight overhang above my scar and I’m not sure if any exercises I do will get rid of that. Can the scar be corrected to reduce the overhang? Or should I do a mini liposuction? I lead a very active lifestyle, I try and work out daily, cardio three times a week. I’m 5’6 and weigh about 132pounds.

Hi, a mini tummy tuck will be able to correct the sight skin excess / overhang and enable the scar to be revised at the same time.

Congratulations! The key to whether you with benefit to having a c section scar revision is best determined after 6-9 months after you delivered. During that time you can improve the scar and the skin quality of the stretched abdominal skin with a product I helped study. It’s from a company called Alastin.com snd the product is Reform and Repair. Use it twice a day on the scar and the skin. At 6-9 months after if you still have extra skin creating a flap  or a scar that is not smooth you can have that extra skin removed and the scar redone. Some surgeons call this a mini Abdominoplasty.  In your photo it looks like you have an umbilical hernia which you should get evaluated. If it needs to be repaired that could be done at the same time. Good luck and congrats!

Congrats, your active lifestyle is paying off! It appears that you have a small amount of skin excess above your c-sec scar. An in person evaluation will determine whether just a scar revision will take care of all of the skin excess or if you will need to elongate the incision into more of a mini tummy tuck.

Hi and thanks for your question. There are several ways to go about correcting this.

1. Liposuction, however it may not correct the loose skin.

2. Excision of the excess skin at the expense of a slightly longer scar

3. Mini tummy tuck - remove skin and tighten lower abdominal wall muscles

4. “Extended” mini tummy tuck. I’d recommend this last one. An extended mini-TT would remove the excess skin in the lower abdomen (it’s not much), but also tighten the abdominal wall muscles all the way from the lower sternum down to the pubis, fixing the umbilical hernia in the process (it appears you have an umbilical hernia too). This would correct the excess skin, correct the hernia, and correct the abdominal wall laxity and would achieve a great result at the expense of a slightly longer abdominal scar.

Liposuction is probably not the right answer as it does not address the excess skin. I think you should consider a scar revision or mini-abdominoplasty.

Hi Chanel Gray, your body is still in the process of recovering from pregnancy. Continue eating well and exercising, you may use a faja (waist trainer) and give it some time. It takes about 8-12 months for your body to fully recover from pregnancy.

You will want to wait until you are 6 months postpartum before deciding on next steps.  This will give your body adequate time to settle and heal from pregnancy.  If it remains bothersome after that point you can consider a little liposuction and scar revision for improvement to the area.
