Can I have liposuction without Tummy Tuck? (Photo)

Question

I am 35, mom of 2. I weigh 116 pounds, height 5'3". I want to get liposuction done around my waist, do I HAVE to get tummy tuck? I really want to avoid it. The recovery time and the scar aren't worth it. Do you think liposuction is good by itself? This a photo of me at my worst.

Thank you for your question.  The best procedure would be a tummy tuck.  It will allow your Surgeon to tighten up the abdominal wall muscles, which is what is partially causing the belly to stick out the way it is.  It will also allow your Surgeon to remove the extra skin you may have after that.  Liposuction will help contour the mid section area and reducing you down by a few inches.  A low carb diet and exercise will help break down any intra abdominal fat, which is the fat under the abdominal wall muscles.  I would suggest seeing a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon in person to evaluate you and discuss your options.  Best of luck to you.

Based on the photos provided, you may not appreciate the aesthetic of your abdomen with liposuction alone. While the procedure does a great job at eliminating unwanted fat, you will be left with excess skin. You may benefit from a mini abdominoplasty due to this fact. In my experience, I liposuction the flanks region at the time of an abdominoplasty in order to provide patients with an hour glass figure. I recommend speaking with a board certified plastic surgeon to discuss your options and for a thorough evaluation.

There are 3 primary contributors to the contour of the abdomen: skin, fat, and muscle. Each one needs to be evaluated by a plastic surgeon to determine the procedure that will result in the best outcome. In some cases liposuction alone will be indicated especially if the skin is not lax or redundant. However, should convexity of the rectus abdominis muscles be present, this will need to be addressed as fat removal alone will not result in a flat abdomen.

based on your photos, you look like a good candidate for a TT. Full tummy tuck should tighten your abdominal muscles and remove the excess skin. Flanks liposuction would give you a better shape. Liposuction of the abdomen is often a great alternative to tummy tuck after having children,  provided the skin laxity is minimal and the muscle wall is strong with minimal diastasis recti.
The photos you post (which are excellent) show minimal skin laxity. On the side view there is some protrusion of the lower abdomen. If the protrusion is due to weakness of the muscle wall then liposuction alone will not give you a flat tummy.  A consultation and physical exam by a Plastic Surgeon will help in determining whether liposuction will be enough for you.
