I have spoken with two surgeons. One wants to do liposuction and wait two months before doing a tummy tuck and breast lift. He says he can assess the skin condition better before doing the other procedures. Another surgeon has recommended against that. He will do the liposuction concurrently with the other procedures. He believes the liposuction will distort the skin and will make it more difficult. I am a 56-year-old female, 5 foot 140 pounds. Can someone give me some guidance?
Answer: Liposuction You did not post photos so I cannot be specific. Liposuction will remove more fat than the tummy tuck. sometimes it is best to remove the fat first and wait 6 months, then follow with the tummy tuck. Liposuction in other areas can be done at the same time as the tuck, or later.

Answer: No lipo before TT I have a vast experience on TT and doing liposuction before TT is never a good idea because of the scar tissue created by the liposuction which will prevent you to have the perfect undermining and also the possibility of the skin to pulled down freely as is during virgin abdominal skin flap. Liposuction can be done safely 6 months later after the TT. Your BMI must be the closest to 25 in order to have a thin and elastic skin flap. Thick flaps don’t give. Be encouraged. Dr. Cárdenas

Answer: Combination of procedures Dear hgs797, I understand your concern. It is best however that you consult with a board certified plastic surgeon to determine whether you can have several aesthetic surgeries in one session, as this would depend on various factors including but not limited to your general health condition, the type of anesthesia that will be used, and the type of surgeries that will be performed among others. Answer: Liposuction before tummy tuck There are a few things that need to be clarified. If you’re referring to Liposuction of the abdomen then there is a clear and obvious correct answer. Doing Liposuction creates a fine Netwerk of scar tissue throughout the fat layer. The scar tissue lack elasticity the way virgin tissue has. Doing a tummy tuck on a patient with immature scar tissue will severely limit the ability to do a successful tummy tuck. I know one surgeon who does aggressive liposuction and then brings the patient back two days later to do the tummy tuck. While an unusual strategy it does have merits and makes sense on certain levels. At two days the patient has not begun to make any scar tissue and damage to the blood supply from Liposuction has had 48 hours to heal called a delay affect. At several weeks there is massive inflammation and lots of early scar tissue forming and this would be the worst time to do surgery on the same area. Must plastic surgeons recommend waiting six months for this car tissue to mature. personally I think two months is insufficient and the surgeon will struggle with immature scar tissue restricting plasticity of the tissue. Personally I would opt for patients doing the tummy tuck followed by liposuction six months later as my preferred method if Liposuction cannot be done sufficiently at the same time as the tummy tuck. There are far too many variables to give you good advice. you didn’t include what areas you’re having Liposuction which has a major impact on decision making. Doing liposuction of the abdomen a before doing a tummy tuck most plastic surgeons recommend waiting six months. To get quality results from cosmetic surgery requires finding talented providers. Delivering consistent quality liposuction results is more difficult than most people believe. While this is true to some degree for a tummy tuck as well Liposuction in particular seems to have far more variation in outcomes based on who does the procedure. For patients looking to have major liposuction impact or have multiple areas treated with quality results patients really need to find someone who specializes in liposuction and has mastered that procedure. Generally speaking the best way to find the right plastic surgeon that is the most talented and experienced is done by having multiple in person consultations. During consultations ask each provider to show their entire collection of before and after pictures for the procedure you’re interested in. Simply seeing a handful of pre-selected pictures which most likely represent the providers best results of their career is insufficient to get a clear understanding of what the average results look like in the hands of each provider. And experience provider should have no difficulty showing you a minimum of 50 sets up before and after pictures of common procedures like abdominal liposuction and tummy tucks. Ask the provider to show as many before and after pictures of patients with similar body characteristics to your own. if you’re having Liposuction and a tummy tuck then ask to see before and after pictures of patients who had the combined procedure. if you’re paying for liposuction then you should be able to clearly differentiate the impact that Liposuction had when reviewing results. When reviewing tummy tuck results looks specifically for who gets the most natural looking belly buttons. This tends to be one of the hardest parts of the procedure and plastic surgeons who gets natural looking belly buttons on a consistent basis typically are detail oriented and can do all aspects of the procedure well. Also look for a low set scar that follows anatomic contours naturally. The torso should look good from all angles including from the side and from behind. A talented plastic surgeon will adjust the tummy tuck according to what each individual person‘s torso looks like so that the entire torso looks good and the tummy tuck matches the rest of the torso. Finally I recommend reading all reviews on various physician review websites avoiding providers for any significant number of justified negative reviews. The absence of justified negative reviews is more important and more telling than having an abundance of positive reviews. Finding the most talented and experienced provider takes a considerable amount of time and effort. The results of these procedures are permanent and irreversible. If done poorly patients can be left disfigured and this cannot be corrected. I cannot emphasize enough the importance of diligently vetting plastic surgeons correctly. When in doubt continue having more consultations until you feel quite certain you found the most talented and experienced surgeon. There should be no hesitations about the procedure or outcomes. Surgeons who are not willing to spend quality time and describe everything in detail are also more likely to cut corners during surgery. surgeons who are detail oriented, thorough and serve as patient advocates will do so in and out of the operating room. When and doubt slowdown and schedule more consultations. Personally I would start with at least five in person consultations but to really find the right provider it may require more than that.
