Why has my breast become more sensitive and uncomfortable after the first-week post-op? Do I need to worry?

Hello,Thank you for your question. You will progress through various stages immediately post op and at some points, incisions will feel more painful than at other times. Typically swelling will start to resolve around 5 days post op and contours do shift/change. I recommend that you let your Plastic Surgeon know if you think something is wrong.All the best

Some pain and sensitivity is normal after a breast augmentation, especially if you are only 1 week post op. If you are concerned there is something wrong with the implant, I would recommend contacting your surgeon. He can take a look and reassure you about how you are healing.

You are very early in the healing process.  It is not unusual to have increased sensitivity in one breast or nipple area.  These sensations will typically resolve over time.  If the problem has not subsided within a few days, express your concerns with your surgeon. Your surgeon will be able to monitor your progress and reassure you.    Best of luck and happy healing!

One week post op is still very early days.  Its normal to see changes in size and shape as well as sensation over the coming weeks as your breasts start to settle and soften.  If you are concerned then its best to arrange a review with your surgeon.

It is not uncommon for there to be an early period of numbness following the surgery due to stretching of the tissues and the nerves.  There can be some recovery after about the first week and then a lot of patients do develop an uncomfortable hypersensitivity of the skin of the breast which is very common at 1 month after surgery.  It is possible he may have "overdid it" but I would contact her plastic surgeon and let him know what symptoms you are having and follow-up closely with her plastic surgeon.

It is likely that you did too much and caused some irritation and soreness.  Rest the area today.  I encourage you to contact your surgeon when you have concerns/questions as he/she is most familiar with the details of your surgery and how you've been progressing through recovery.

Thank you for your question.  Although this sounds like nerve irritation related to the surgery and activity, be sure to be following the instructions of your surgeon and to be checking in with their office should things get worse or any changes occur that you are not sure of.

First, they are supposed to look different after a time due to the tissues accommodating your new volume. Second, the pain is most likely nerve irritation from the stretching of the tissues. You should be checking with your surgeon, and if you remain concerned go see her/him in the near future.All the best,Talmage Raine MD
