Severe swelling after Restylane... normal or allergy? I’m really scared. (Photos)

Restylane tends to cause more swelling than other hyaluronic acid gels because it attracts a lot of fluid into the lip after injection.  I recommend Juvederm Volbella instead of Restylane.Good luck!

Yes, this can be typical after lip filler. I would wait a full 2 weeks before judging the results, however, if you're concerned, I recommend following up with your injector. If necessary, you can have the filler reversed with hyaluronidase.

I appreciate your concerns. I have seen swelling like this before from lip injections. It can be quite concerning, but I don’t see anything else on the photos that worries. If you have severe pains, swelling inside your mouth or difficulty breathing then call your injector right away. Thank you for your question. It is common to have some swelling after Restylane for lip augmentation and can take up to 2 weeks to fully resolve and see your final results. You can apply ice to your lips to help reduce the swelling. It is also advisable to avoid any NSAID’s before and after treatment as they tend to thin the blood and increase swelling and bruising. I recommend having a follow up with your injector if you have any concerns. Best of Luck!

Thanks for the question and the photos and sorry that you are having these concerns after your Restylane injections. We always recommend that you have these injections performed in the offices of board certified dermatologists or plastic surgeons – we are the true experts in these injections. For you, it is important to know which Restylane product was injected – Restylane Silk, approved for this, does swell the most of the Restylane fillers.  Your provider should have reviewed all of this with you as well.  The swelling will go down and you will be fine – use ice and gentle massage and over the next two weeks, things will be okay for you.  You can always dissolve the Restylane but most do not need to do this.  Good  luck.

You should always contact your practitioner immediately to inform them if you have any adverse swelling or concerns.
If you have noIt is not uncommon to experience swelling for several days after a treatment and it can often be worse first thing in the morning and gradually resolve as the day progresses.
The application of cold compresses for 5 minutes every hour may help and keep hydrated, but avoid any hot drinks or spicy food until this is resolved.
As Restylane is a filler made from hylauronic acid it can easily be dissolved with Hylauronidase if required.
