Massage may help reduce swelling in the abdomen after Tummy tuck/abdominoplasty. The likelihood that it will improve numbness that is associated with nerve nerves being cut as a part of the operation is very small. Be patient, a large proportion of your sensation will return over the next several months and years. It is imperative that you seek the advice of a plasticsurgeon who is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and hasextensive experience in tummy tuck/abdominoplasty. I wish you the best. Dr. Gabbay.
massage will not help. it takes 1-2 years for maximal feeling to occur. be patient. hope it all looks good.
Thank you for your question. Numbness usually improves over time as the nerves regenerate. Massage is unlikely to accelerate nerve regeneration.
Having an area of numbness between the belly button and the incision is a normal side-effect of having a tummy tuck surgery and usually happens after a c-section as well (or any sideways incision in the lower abdomen). The nerves will regenerate somewhat over a year, but at this point you are over a year out from surgery the the areas of numbness that you have are likely permanent. Massage will be of no benefit but shouldn't hurt anything either. Best of luck!
The sensation changes you are experiencing are quite normal and are part of the design of the operation. There really isn't much you can do about it other than wait for improvement. Massage will not improve your sensation. I know you want to be pro-active, but this is the sort of thing that is a bit out of our control.Good Luck!
Numbness after tummy tuck comes in two forms, the temporary numbness of the entire abdomen from the liposuction/surgical dissection and the cutting of the lower abdominal skin nerves when removing the skin. the second type results in permanent numbness in the lower abdomen and almost all patient who have had a tummy tuck have this to some degree. Massage at this point probably will not help at all in this regard.
Hi, there.Numbness in lower abdomen is expected after tummy tuck. It takes 1-2 years for nerves to regenerate. However, sensation in lower abdomen may never return to normal. Massage will not help with nerve regeneration.
Thank you for the question. Numbness of the anterior abdomen is a consequence of tummy tuck. It generally improves over the year postop. Massaging is helpful the scars but I don't think it speeds up the recovery of sensation.
I do not know the percentage for fat embolism. however sadly I must disagree with my colleague. there was a well publicized death in Philadelphia of a young girl who died from a fat embolism after lipo of the neck. I quote to my patients a 3-4 % risk of thromboembolic event...
Most surgeons use one to two drains followers no a tummy tuck and try to place them so they are easy to take care of and so they don't leave a scar in a noticeable area. I think the hair bearing pubic area is the best because the hair will cover the scar.
Itching at 7 months after tummy tuck has no relationship to tummy tuck You should be seeing a dermatologist for proper diagnosis and treatment of it.
