In 19 years of practice, I have never had a patient who required a blood transfusion following a tummy tuck. This is highly uncommon .
I do not think it is common to need a blood transfusion after a routine tummy tuck. The need for blood would mena that a lot of blood was lost either during ar immediately after the surgery. Or, your blood levels were very low before the surgery started. In either case the most important thing is that the low level was identified and treated so that you didn't experience other problems related to hving a low blood level.
This would be very uncommon and much less than 1%.Kenneth Hughes, MDLos Angeles, CA..................
It is extremely rare for a tummy tuck patient to require a blood transfusion. It's so rare that we commonly perform plastic surgery on patients who are Jehovah's Witnesses who refuse blood transfusion. I have never given a patient a blood transfusion.
A transfusion after in abdominoplasty is almost never required. As matter-of-factly properly performed abdominoplasty blood loss is very minimal.
Requiring blood products during or after a tummy tuck would be the exception. Factors such as your baseline blood levels, timing of menstruation, intra-operative blood loss, etc can factor into it, but by and large that is not the norm. The same goes for most plastic surgery procedures.
It would be extremely unusual to need a blood transfusion after a tummy tuck. During this operation blood loss is very well controlled and most patients lose less than 100 ml of blood during the surgery. Even if the unusual hematoma occurs after the operation, it would be very unusual to lose enough to need a transfusion.
It is VERY unusual to require a blood transfusion after a tummy tuck, or after any plastic surgery procedure. Usually very little blood is lost during our operations, and as long as you have a normal lab result before your operation, no specific intervention should be required. Best wishes with your operation!
No, barring a serious complication, blood transfusion after tummy tuck surgery is very uncommonly necessary. Best wishes.
It is not common to receive a blood transfusion after a tummy tuck. There is usually not extensive blood loss from this procedure and the need for transfusion is very rare. However, as with any major surgery, there is a risk of the complication of postop bleeding or hematoma. If one has the complication of bleeding in the postoperative period, it is possible that a transfusion could be medically indicated. This would depend on the severity of such bleeding and the patients level of hemoglobin as well as on the patients blood pressure, heart rate, and urine output.
Everything you describe sounds totally normal. The dimple is from a suture that will probabl dissolve. It an take a few weeks before you can completely straighten up. Keep following your surgeon's instructions.
