What is the recommended time to spend in a hospital after a mommy makeover?

As with many operations, ambulatory surgery (going home the day of surgery) is the new normal.  I must say that for a case like yours, I would also give the patient the option of staying in house, or going home to their own bed.  It is exceedingly unlikely that anything "bad" would happen if you go home, but many patients like to know that they have nurses and doctors nearby. Others find the fees of the hospital to be exorbitant and that sets them off in the other direction.  Sometimes it is a matter of having proper pain control - but we do that pretty well at home nowadays too.So, it's an ongoing discussion, but I do find myself sending an increasing number of people home that 10 years ago I would have kept in the hospital.Good Luck!

In my own surgery center I prefer to have the patient's spend the night after a mommy makeover. However healthy patients within uncomplicated operation can be safely sent home.

In the past, a hospital stay was recommended.  However, most surgeons will encourage their patients to go home after a mommy makeover type surgery.  Almost all of my patients return home in my practice.  Best wishes for your surgery!

Most young healthy moms can go home the same day following surgery, provided that there were no unforseen circumstances during surgery.  However, if the patient is a new mother or feels that she will not get adequate rest the night following surgery, then I recommend an overnight stay.  An overnight stay can either be a negotiated hospital fee or in a hotel with a night nurse.  These accommodations allow a mom to recuperate rather than having to take care of a household on her first postoperative day. 

Whether or not you need an overnight stay will largely depend on your overall health status. If you are a healthy individual, you should be able to return home the day of surgery without concern. Most surgeons will be using general anesthesia for this procedure which does make the early recovery period a bit more difficult than with MAC anesthesia. But either way, if you are healthy, you should be fine to return home.  

The majority of healthy patients can return home after a mommy makeover procedure. If you have any medical conditions however you may need to stay at an aftercare facility overnight or a hospital. There are many issues that enter into the decision to have surgery as either an outpatient or an inpatient.  While I treat most patients on an outpatient basis, I have had patients spend one night after surgery if it is medically appropriate.  Ultimately this is a decision that you should make in consultation with your surgeon.  

Thank you for your question.  Most of my patients who undergo BA/lift with TT go home after the surgery.  As long as you are healthy and your surgery is limited to 5-6 hours, you will be safe to go home.  Depending on your social situation and pain threshold, your plastic surgeon can give you a definitive recommendation.  Best wishes!

Thanks for your question.  Generally, I advise my patients to spend the night if their surgery is expected to last longer than 5-6 hours.  I have had many patients go home after a tummy tuck with augmentation.   But I have also had many patients elect to spend the night so that they can rest away from the hustle and bustle of the house, particularly if they have small children.  If you are healthy, you should do fine with a same day surgery.  Best wishes.  

Most commonly these procedures are performed at a surgery center and the patient will then return home after surgery.  It is extremely important to have help with you who will be there the entire time.
