Thank you for your question. An areolar reduction will not significantly affect the appearance of your breast, but one can combine the areolar reduction with other breast enhancement procedures, such as a lift, to yield a more dramatic result. An areolar reduction alone can cause some flattening of your breast, depending on the amount of reduction to be performed. See an ASPS board certified plastic surgeon
Reducing the size of the areola can give a slight lift to the breasts, but if yours are droopy you may be a better candidate for either a lollipop or standard breast lift. All would include a reduction in the size of the areola. The incisions vary depending on the approach. Visit with a board certified plastic surgeon near you for an evaluation to learn more.
A reduction of the areolas would improve their look, but only minimally correct the ptosis (sagginess). From your description it seems that a full uplift would be the best treatment.
Thank you for the question. Your description is consistent with breast ptosis; patients with this diagnosis benefit from breast lifting plus/minus breast augmentation surgery. At some point, you may benefit from consultation with board-certified plastic surgeons; you will want to see lots of examples of their work achieving the types of outcomes you will be pleased with. I would suggest that you time the operation carefully, based on physical, emotional, psychosocial maturity and your own specific life circumstances/plans.For some patients the necessity of scars associated with breast lifting surgery is a “dealbreaker” ; for these patients it is better to avoid breast surgery altogether. On the other hand, many patients (If properly selected and who are doing the operations at the right time of their lives psychosocially) accept the scars associated with breast augmentation/breast lifting surgery as long as they are happy with the improvement in contour, size, and symmetry. This acceptance of the scars is the essential “trade-off” associated with many of the procedures we do in the field of plastic surgery.I hope this, and the attached link, helps.
If you are wanting the size of the areola to be smaller the most reliable result would be to have areola reduction surgery. This involves an incision around the areola which typically heals nicely and is well hidden. Visit with a board certified plastic surgeon near you to learn more.
I know it is hard to be patient but you are still healing from the procedure. It can take a few months for you to see your final result from your areola reduction. Be sure to closely follow your surgeon's post op instructions for optimal results.
Breasts come in all shapes and sizes and yours are normal. If you would like to have your areola downsized you can elect to do so surgically. This involves a scar that will be around the areola. Patients typically don't mind the scar as it often blends with the areola pigmentation once healed.
