8 months post calf & ankle lipo, no results . Is it possible I am still swollen? Please help!

Question

so I had lipo on my calves and ankles exactly 8 months ago, my legs still look the same. I do run a few times a week, so is it possible that I am still swelling ? but it has been 8 months! about 4 weeks post op my legs looked amazing, then the results dissappeared.. they are still sort of numb, but dont know if they are swollen or just fat! Some say it takes a year for lower legs to see final results, but surely I should see my results by now??

Swelling in this area after liposuction can be more persistent but it eight months one would expect to see some significant improvement.

Swelling can be present for several months after liposuction in any area.  At this point, you should see some improvement.  I would make sure you return to your surgeon or another board certified plastic surgeon to voice these concerns.  You also should have someone evaluate your legs for a venous or lymphatic problem.  Veins or lymphatics could have been injured during the procedure.  Good luck

I'm sorry to hear of the unusual problems that you're having after calf liposuction. From your description of a fabulous result early on I can feel confident that appropriate liposuction was performed but that you are suffering from chronic swelling after the procedure. This is very unusual in my experience because normally patients see a dramatic improvement within several to 6 weeks and their final results at 6 months. The fact that you looked great early on tells me that the appropriate fat was removed. Consider using elastic support stockings and periodic leg elevation during the day combined with avoidance of salty foods to see if your situation improves. I do not feel that additional surgery is likely to be warranted but would recommend that you speak to an ABPS board-certified plastic surgeon who can examine you and make a more specific recommendation.
