I had liposuction performed on my abdomen and was hoping to a get a tattoo on my stomach 4 weeks post op. Will I be healed enough to get a tattoo?
Answer: At four weeks post liposuction, you will still be fairly swollen. At four weeks post liposuction, you will still be fairly swollen. I would not recommend having a tattoo done at this time. Not only may the pain be more intense, but the tattoo itself may become distorted as your swelling decreases. There is definitely a risk of the tattoo changing shape if performed on swollen tissue. Talk to your liposuction surgeon about your plans, but personally I would not recommend a tattoo until at minimum 6 months or even longer post liposuction.

Answer: Tattoo After Lipo I suggest waiting 2-3 months, but it is likely that even now there is no risk to you if done by a clean/reputable facility. Best, Dr. Emer.

Answer: When can I get a tattoo over Lipo? Good question. Best to check with your surgeon for exact recommendations. In my office I would recommend that a patient wait three months before getting a tattoo. This allows areas of swelling to resolve prior to getting the tattoo.

Answer: Tattooing an area that was previously liposuction. I don't see any contraindication to tattooing an area that was liposuctioned four weeks after the procedure. Nevertheless make sure it's okay with your surgeon.

Answer: Tattoing after lipo Make sure you discuss the timing with your surgeon as they can examine you fully which will provide more information than your picture. My recommendation is to wait a few months after the procedure. The reason for waiting is not the procedure itself but its for allowing the skin to have enough time to retract as best as possible. If you have the tatoo placed while skin is still loose, then it may distort the final tattoo once the skin tightens up. Congrats on your surgery and good luck.
