If your surgeon is not impressed, then you;ll need more time.  As long as it is not an accumulation of free fluid (seroma), then it's either swelling, residual fat, or both. If you are not satisfied, you can go on a few second opinion consultations.Best of luck!

The photograph is not particularly edifying but at your stage of convalescence there still be some swelling. As long as the trend is favorable I wouldn't be too worried about it.

You should wait about three to six months for the majority of swelling to resolve before becoming concerned. Make sure to follow your surgeon's care instructions and reduce sodium intake to reduce swelling.

Thank you for the question and photos.  Swelling after liposuction is normal and after a tummy tuck where the lymphatics have been affected is even more common.  Your swelling should be improving with time.  If it is not your plastic surgeon will need to provide some reasoning for why that is occurring and what can or should be done to properly diagnose and treat the issue.All the best,Dr. Remus Repta

It is very difficult to answer your question without a proper examination. There are too many variables to consider. I hope that you trust your doctor enough that you could have a conversation with him/her. I think your concerns could be addressed. If not, you are of course entitled to seek a second opinion.  I think we all understand that peace of mind is as important as a flat tummy.   

It's hard to say for sure from the photos.  In general, though, if you're increasing in size during the post-operative period it is reasonable to at least consider the possibility of a seroma.  You should discuss this with your own plastic surgeon and if indicated seek a second consultation.  Diagnosis can be made with an ultrasound and/or the insertion of a fine needle to try to aspirate the fluid.That being said, it can take many weeks or months for tissues to heal after lipo so it may be as much a question of waiting it out as of intervening.  An in-person assessment would be necessary to figure out what to do next.I hope that this helps and good luck,Dr. Alan EnglerMember of #RealSelf500
