Thank you for your question and congratulations on your upcoming surgery! As far as your surgical markings there should not be any reason that your husband can not be present. Additionally, your vagina is covered during your operation in order to maintain sterility and cleanliness. As far as the all female staff, that is something best asked of your surgeon. Depending on whether they have their own surgical center or use a hospital/private operating room this may be within their ability. Hope this helps and best wishes.
When patients have requested all female staff (nurses, techs, anesthesiologist) for cultural/religious/personal reasons, I do everything I can to make it happen. When it does, it truly is a very comfortable and remarkable experience for every woman in the room! Occasionally due to scheduling/personnel issues, it is not possible to accommodate the request. Every patient is reassured that each of our staff is experienced and professional, regardless of their sex/gender. We make sure that the patient is as comfortable as possible during the markings, so a husband/family member/friend is absolutely welcome to be present as long as the patient wants someone there.During your surgery, only the areas that are being operated on are exposed. Everything else is covered for safety, sterility, warmth, and modesty. These are excellent questions and very reasonable concerns - make sure to discuss them with your plastic surgeon so that you can feel comfortable and confident about how you will be taken care of before, during, and after your surgery.Hope this is helpful, and take care.Dr. Lim
