Breast augmentation canceled due to UTI. Will my surgery be cancelled again?

My surgery was canceled a week before surgery because of an infection , my surgeon advise me as long as I’ve an infection the surgery won’t go ahead , I went to the gp today and I was prescribed more antibiotics I have to take them right up to my surgery day I’ve told my surgeon I am taking a second course of antibiotics. Will my surgery be canceled again

Thank you for sharing your excellent question.  As long as there is any infection present, your surgery should be delayed to avoid the risk of implant complications.  Assuming an uncomplicated UTI, this should resolve within a week’s time with antibiotics.  Hope this helps.

Your surgeon is giving you good advice.  If you have the surgery with an ongoing infection, OR while you are on antibiotics, you can get an infection in the implants and the surgery can fail (meaning you made need to have the implants removed later due to infection.   It's hard to reschedule but all that matters is that you have a great outcome from your surgery.  Remember that just being on antibiotics can set you up for an bad infection when a foreign body is placed.  It will work out well!

I would advise may patients against and I would not carry out a BA on someone with a UTI or another active infection. A decision about surgery needs to be by your surgeon who needs to know the details of your recent infection. It sounds as if a first course of antibiotics did not work if you have been prescribed more antibiotics. You should check (with your doctor) that your UTI is sensitive the antibiotics you have been prescribed and discus this with your doctor. If you are having recurrent attack of UTI you should discuss further investigation with doctor.Remember that antibiotics are only part of the treatment for a UTI. A good fluid intake helps the body to flush out the bladder and urinary system. Especially in hot weather, when we may pass lass urine, we are at increased risk of UTI.Sexual intercourse can be a factor in UTI in what is sometimes called 'honeymoon cystitis'. If you are being cautious about UTI leading up to your date for surgery you may wish to consider abstaining or at least making sure you have a good fluid intake and pass urine after intercourse.Best wishes.

As long as you have an active infection, it’s a no go. Your body has to be clear of all bacteria. As we all know, implants can be seeded even after the fact by a simple dental procedure or anything that causes bacteria to enter the bloodstream.
