Keep getting small abscesses 6 months after breast augmentation. Any advice? (Photo)

Question

I had the surgery in October and I keep getting abscesses. The surgeon has treated me twice already with antibiotics. Now I just noticed a new one, slightly bleeding and little puss coming out. It’s not painful. Any advice?

It's important to follow up with your surgeon to determine the cause of the abscesses. They may want to examine the area and possibly order tests to check for any underlying infections or issues with the implant. It's possible that there may be an issue with the implant itself or with the surgical technique used. In the meantime, keep the area clean and avoid touching or squeezing the abscess to prevent further infection. If the abscess continues to worsen or becomes painful, seek medical attention immediately.

Hello, thank you for your question. This can sometimes occur when a dissolvable suture doesn't dissolve. I would speak to you plastic surgeon about what they suggest doing. sometimes observation is enough.

Thanks for your inquiry, without an exam it is hard to advise.  By the picture you possibly are "spitting" suture, which is that not all of your absorbable sutures are absorbing.  Some types of suture can take 6 months to absorb.  In the meantime they can spit out to the surface.  Ask your surgeon about hydrogen peroxide and Bactroban ointment, good luck.

You probably have an internal stitch that has picked up bacteria and needs to be removed. This can be done under local anesthesia in your surgeon's office.  Please go back to your surgeon.
