Question

I was a little more firm with the massage this morning and a lot of the crusts are now removed although hairs did remove along with the crusting. I am just concerned I was a little too firm, but from my understanding to remove a graph at day 14 is not easy, I saw no blood, so just for benefit of doubt wanted to run this by you guys and I will schedule a quick catch up with my surgeon to be sure as advised by you guys. Thanks for your help, much appreciated.

It is best to ask your surgeon about post operative care as each doctor has their unique regimen.  After 14 days you should be able to wash your hair normally without any issues.

by 9-10 days after the procedure the grafts should be fully incorporated into the scalp and not able to be dislodged.However I would be careful as you gently wash and massage your head over the next few days.

It should be safe to remove the scabs and crusts gently, but as always it is best to consult your hair restoration doctor and follow his specific post op plan for you.

If you continue to let the shampoo sit 5-10 minutes before rinsing, and then let your conditioner sit for 5-10 minutes, massaging your scalp after on a daily basis should get rid of any scabs you have left within a few days. As long as you don't pick at them they should be fine.

You can wash your hair normally at 14 days post operative.  If crusting remains you can soak your head or stand under the shower head for 10 minutes.  Do not pick the scabs but massaging the scalp will not hurt the grafts.

At 14 days you should really get those crusts removed.  Don't pick at them though!  Here's what I suggest to my patients: 
1) Shower and really let those grafts soak for at least 5 minutes
2) Place a thin layer of vaseline or aquaphor over the (now soft) crusts
3) Cover your head with any kind of cap (so your greasy head doesn't mess up your pillow!) and let everything just sit overnight
4) Shower in the AM and really rub all those crusts in circles with shampoo lather very gently for a long time.  You can usually get almost all of the crusts gone over 36 hours repeating this process as needed.

This should have all been washed off in the first two days after the transplant. You should let the shampoo sit on your head twice daily for 10 minutes, and slowly and gently message these crusts. They should be ready to come off. DO NOT PICK THEM or you run the risk of puling out the grafts
