Is this normal hair shedding after a hair transplant? (photos)

Photos of your hair that has fallen out cannot give a diagnosis. It is normal to lose hairs after surgery.  If you believe it is not normal it is best to contact your doctor for a follow up exam.

Most of the transplanted hair fall off 2-4 weeks after the surgery. So, there is nothing to worry. They will start coming back after 2-3 months.

There is a possibility - due to operation stress - that a number of hairs will fall out in the post-operation phase. This generally temporary occurrence is known as "shock loss", and may last just a few weeks or possibly months. In certain cases, donor hairs and neighbouring hairs may fall out after a hair transplant (for instance when dense packing has been performed). This should not worry patients, as the hairs generally regrow once the shock loss period has ended.

If those are indeed the root bulbs then that is the graft itself. And that's an issue. The problem with FUE in general is that often times the graft is skeletonized during the extraction process. This means very little tissue around the follicle. So when handled and implanted there is little protection for the follicle and it doesn't "take". That may well be what happened here. Rather than being seen as an autograft for the body to accept, it sees it as a foreign body like a splinter and rejects it. Obviously you should send these to your doctor to get his take on it. If you were my patient and I saw those photos I would think those were the follicles, remnants of grafts. Dr. Feller

Shock loss occurs most frequently in young me who are not placed on the drug finasteride which tends to be protective against it. See video below
