In my sessions so far, Dr. Devroye has essentially combed through my beard with a magnifying glass and removed all the problematic hairs (which was around 90% of them). He cut them and replanted my beard hairs at a correct angle with the correct depth (not too deep this time). All leftover hairs were put back into my donor area to fix the thinness, baldness, and scarring. In a 2-day period, he and his team worked with 2,700 grafts. Amazingly, my skin cleared up right away and all the folliculitis, acne, and pitting problem went away almost instantly. Appearance-wise, my beard looks really natural now with finer hairs, more natural hairlines with synchronicity – see both pics below for the AFTER results. The results (fortunately!) have far exceeded both Dr. Devroye and my expectations. It has been nothing short of a miracle.I probably have one more minor session left to fill in my chin and then I will finally be able to put this Turkey disaster behind me. However, this experience is not without consequence. Dr. Devroye warned me that I am now at some risk of losing hair on my head in the donor area when I get older and there is a risk of balding. Honestly, I never thought my decision to go to Turkey would have such heavy and longstanding repercussions.
I had a beard transplant done in Istanbul in 2020. They had done a fairly good job by their standards, but it was far too thick. Visually, it looked pretty obvious I had had it done, with people very often making remarks about how straight the beard line across my cheek looked. The operation had also left me with large bald patches on the back of my head. I had read about similar situation online where Dr Devroye had performed a beard transplant fix, and so I contacted the surgery and ultimately travelled to Belgium in May 2022. I was treated well. Dr. Devroye was thorough beforehand, answering any questions I had and spending plenty of time ensuring that the desired outcome would be achieved. The surgery itself was performed by a team of Dr. Devroye's employees, which he oversaw by going back and forth from the room throughout the day. He successfully decreased the density, made the beard line more natural, and planted the excessive grafts back into the back of my head. My complaints relate to the aftercare. Once I was home, most of my attempts to contact the surgery with questions went either partially or totally unanswered. One such question involved the cost. I had done a calculation in my head of roughly how much the surgery would amount to. The Dr's quote exceeded it massively. I asked on several occasions for a full break down of costs. I received one reply to one of the many emails I sent, stating that they would reach out to the accounts department and get back to me. They never did. Strangely, I did receive emails unrelated to my queries asking for photo updates at regular intervals. At first, I was responsive. However, engagement on their part only really happened when it suited the Dr. As a result I stopped replying. I am in two minds about whether I would recommend. I do have slight issues with the finished product, but the improvement is massive and so I can let that slide. Call me old fashioned, but I think any company that provides a service should ensure that it's of a high standard in all areas, before and after they have received payment. The team are good at what they do, but it stops once you leave the building post-surgery.
I have found Dr Devroye to be incredibly dishonest – from running multiple surgeries on the same day, to refusing to honour his own guarantee or do repairs, to directly lying about the work he has carried out, to doing unnecessary work so he can charge more money. He also overharvested my donor area (pictures) In 2021 I had a hair/beard transplant done with Jean Devroye for €8800 for 2000 grafts. The goal was to improve density of hair and to remove double/triple grafts and bumps left on my face by a Turkish surgeon Devroye said such a procedure shouldn't leave any bumps and that the turkish surgeon used oversized grafts and didn't implant them deep enough. he said he could fix it by removing the bad grafts and re-implanting them properly, and that I would have no visible scars as a result. He also said for the multi-grafts on my face, he could split them into smaller grafts and replant them as single grafts Despite paying €8800 I was not the only patient that day, surgery started several hours later into the day. He ran out of time and he didn’t address all of the bumps on my face as promised. Instead of splitting the grafts, he put multi grafts back on my face when I asked him not to. Some of the grafts he implanted left bumps themselves instead of repairing them I contacted him again and he quoted me €450 to fix the remaining bumps and bad grafts. I then had another surgery with him and I noticed he removed a load of hairs which were completely normal and he put them back in different places. He also put the multi grafts on my face after removing them once again despite being asked not to do so. He lied and told me he split grafts when he didn’t. The €450 estimate jumped to €1,292 because he said he needed to extract and place more hairs than originally planned. He very obviously removed a load of healthy hair and then re-implanted it do bump up the graft count so he could charge me more. After i complained and showed before and after pictures of how he's removed completely healthy and normal hairs from places that had nothing to do with any previous surgery he reduced it to €968 Over the next few months he Kept refusing to do repairs or ignored my emails despite me having paid him almost €10,000 now and when he clearly ripped me off on the last surgery by removing healthy hairs and moving them around my face. Eventually he said he can make me perfectly happy if I give him another €750-1000. I said I'm not happy to pay for the same work a third time, and he said he would not be happy to operate on me again and won't do a repair. I left a negative review and he finally agreed to a repair for the face if I delete the negative review first. Before the repair he complained that I dared to leave a negative review. He tried to gaslight me and told me that it was impossible that he put multi grafts back on my face and that it didn’t happen. I pointed out that a quadruple hair graft moved to different locations on my face twice. He said this was impossible The doctor was standoffish and odd with me and demanded I personally mark every single bump and double graft he left on my face for him to remove. He had equipment which greatly magnify what he can see, and it would be easier for him to do so than me. Eventually he stopped being difficult and marked them himself. Despite marking a number of bumps and double grafts, he still ignored some of the ones he marked and left them When I got back to my Airbnb I contacted saying I was happy with the ones he addressed, but there were about 15 more that were missed. The secretary said they were happy for me to come back for the remaining issues. However, when I got there Dr Devroye was extremely unpleasant and inappropriate. He waited until my face had been injected with anaesthetic then approached when I was on operating table and started shouting about how unfair it is to do a repair which is working for free, how I wanted a free surgery and he should have been paid, and how he didn’t even get a box of chocolates from myself for his generosity. Keep in mind the reason I had to keep going back to the clinic, paying for flights and airbnbs, is because Devroye himself kept doing the opposite of what he promised I also noticed he has taken on another doctor who he seems to be informally training so he can run multiple operating theatres at the exact same time for more money. I can’t help but notice that prices haven’t dropped and there’s nothing on the website about how someone completely different will be operating on you at various points in the procedure For the remaining 15 grafts he told me he would split the grafts and not put the multi grafts on my face, and put the remaining extra hairs on my scalp. He lied as you can see from the photographs – he got his assistant to cut me with a blade to make fake incisions on my scalp where he implanted no grafts (pictures), and then once again put the multi grafts back on my face for the third time (pictures).
In order to provide you with an exact number of grafts we should calculate the surface of the area to be covered. Based on your pictures, I estimate that with around 1500 grafts you should be able to fully restore your temple corners - without lowering you hairline.
The number of grafts needed will essentially depend on how much you will decide to lower your hairline, on your hair caliber therefore on the implantation density rate. Normally, to achieve a natural looking feminine hairline restoration the implantation density must be quite high. Based on your picture, I would recommend you to get around 2500-3000 grafts via FUT (preferable for women) or FUE.
You can harmonize your hair cut the very next day after the surgery and dye your hair two weeks after the procedure. So, yes, you can cut your hair in the 8th month after your surgery.
We lose about 100 hairs per day, sometimes a bit less, sometimes a bit more. To me, this might be normal, but I advise you to consult a dermatologist or hair surgeon if you want to be sure.
There is a possibility - due to operation stress - that a number of hairs will fall out in the post-operation phase. This generally temporary occurrence is known as "shock loss", and may last just a few weeks or possibly months. In certain cases, donor hairs and neighbouring hairs may fall out after a hair transplant (for instance when dense packing has been performed). This should not worry patients, as the hairs generally regrow once the shock loss period has ended. Moreover, the cell responsible for regrowth remains in the scalp even though the grafted hair falls
