Thanks for sharing your concern. You're seeing some internal scar tissue. I've seen this with MiraDry, axillary breast augmentation, and liposuction too. Some form of it occurs with lots of procedures around the underarm, in fact. The good news is that it goes away with massage. I see it more on thin patients where the connective tissue is closer to the skin surface. Rarely, it becomes severe enough to require a small shot of cortisone into the scar tissue. Speak with the treating physician. Best wishes, Dr. ALDO
A Miradry treatment destroys the glands that create sweat and odor. In our experience, all patients could develop this syndrome. We have found that when the patient applies ice non stop for 3 days following the treatment and then gently massages the armpits, the swelling resolves with minimal firmness and no webbing. We follow the patients carefully for for 6 weeks to be sure the patient does the massage to prevent this syndrome.
Axillary scarring with the Miradry procedure can be more common if you are a thinner patient. Stretching exercises, and massaging the area will help resolve this situation over time.Best wishes,Dr. Ravi Somayazula
Following MiraDry, it is very common to develop lumpiness and nodularity, which represents the sweat and odor glands contracting down and fibrosing. This will slowly go away over a period of weeks and is not at all abnormal. Often times, small vascular branches or lymphatic channels will also contract down, and create a "web" feeling, which will also slowly resolve on its own. Massage and continued activity will help, but are not necessary. Try to be patient, and let the natural healing process follow its course.
I prophylactically use citrus bioflavonoids to prevent lymphatic swelling and tissue induration after miraDry.We use a product called Swell-X.Dr H Karamanoukian
Hi, thank you for your question! Yes, this a normal response to Miradry. If you feel the swelling is getting worse within the next week I would suggest following up with your provider.
The internal scarring is a rare occurrence and might be treated with cortisone injections. Have an iodine-starch test and if your sweat glands are gone from the underarm area, another treatment won't help. I also only use level 5. Warmest regards, Dr. Aldo
I am truly sorry you are experiencing this. It is not typical that you would get this kind of result, or that you would need a 3rd treatment. I would give it at least 12 weeks from your 2nd treatment and then return to your healthcare professional and be sure they have treated you at the highest...
