I had a rhinoplasty last year. I noted a bump on the top bridge of my nose early on and was told it is most likely swelling. I went for a follow up yesterday and showed my surgeon the bump. He said my skin is thin and “tightened up” quickly. He said fillers can fix the issue. I am so upset because I don’t want fillers for the rest of my life. Is this common? Are fillers my best option at this point?
Answer: Would you consider a permanent non-surgical nose job? For over 25 years we have been using microdroplet Silikon-1000 to correct indentations after rhinoplasty surgery. If the skin at the indentation is very bound down with scar tissue, results may be limited. Generally several treatment are needed for a permanent Improvement. I hope this helps! Sincerely, Dr Joseph

Answer: Rhinoplasty You can camouflage the bump with fillers for now. Ultimately you may want a revision to lower the bone where is appears a little high

Answer: Rhinoplasty outcomes To make an accurate assessment regarding the outcome of a plastic surgery procedure we generally need to see a complete set of proper before and after pictures. If you don’t have proper before, and after pictures and ask your surgeon to forward, the pictures they took. Ultimately your surgeon is responsible for the outcome of the procedure and the patient is responsible for choosing that provider. Rhinoplasty surgery is fairly complex and in my opinion patient should be highly selective when choosing providers. I generally recommend patients do this by starting the process by having multiple in person consultations. During each consultation, ask each provider to open up their portfolio and show you their entire collection of before, and after pictures of previous patients who had similar facial characteristics to your own. An experience provider should have no difficulty showing you the before and after pictures of at least 50 previous patients. Being shown a handful of pre-selected images, representing only the best results of a providers career may be insufficient to get a clear understanding of what average results look like in the hands of each provider, what your results are likely to look like or how many of these procedures they’ve actually done. I recommend patients also ask providers what their most common need for revision is, what their revision rate is, and what their revision policy is. In the end, plastic surgery outcomes are generally based on a patient candidacy and provider skill. Revision rhinoplasty is far more Difficult than primary procedures. A revision procedure could even out your contour and improve your outcome, but revision surgery is more unpredictable, and technically more difficult to thin Primary procedures. I cannot emphasize enough the importance of provider selection. I encourage patients to look for senior plastic surgeons, who have at least wanted to two decades of experience, preferably focusing exclusively on rhinoplasty surgery, or at least plastic surgeons, who have a strong emphasis on rhinoplasty surgery in their practice. I suggest you schedule a few in person the second opinion consultations with other providers in your community. For second opinion consultations come prepared bringing with you a complete set of proper before and after pictures and a copy of your operative report. These should all be available from your current provider if you ask for them. Best, Mats Hagstrom, MD
