I had rhinoplasty done in 2019, and after that, my swelling had reduced a lot by mid-2020. Now, when I sleep, there is congestion in my nose, and it blocks my nose, due to which my swelling is increasing. If I do not sleep for 2 days, the swelling will start decreasing, but if I sleep, the swelling will increase the next day. And earlier, when I used to wake up from sleep, I used to notice less swelling. I feel very bad seeing my face, and I stay at home; I don't even go out. I feel SAD.

If your surgeon used permanent suture material, or if you have a foreign body nasal implant, either of these could be the cause of recurrent swelling. If Consulting with a reputable rhinoplasty specialist is not possible, you may wish to consider re-asking a question with photographs that best describe your concerns. I hope this is helpful, and thank you for your question. Sincerely, Dr Joseph

Sorry to hear of your problems. Swelling happening so late after a rhinoplasty is likely to be from some other cause rather than the rhinoplasty itself. It will be best for you to schedule a consultation with your rhinoplasty surgeon as well as an ENT who can investigate the cause of the selling with possibly a CT/MRI scan and an endoscopy to rule out any intranasal pathologies. All the best!

Hello! Thank you for your question. As far as I can understand from your question ,to solve your breathing problem and make your nose the way you want it I recommend you revision surgery. If you can provide photos with better lighting, from the side of your face and 1 meter away I would be able to make a proper evaluation. It would be more convenient to decide with face-to-face consultation. Best regards!

When wewake up from a sleep, its very normal to have swelling because we are laying diwn for a long period. That is probably the reason you are noticing swelling around your nose. If you are feeling unhappy with your results and your breathing hasn’t improved in general, I would highly recommend you to go back to your surgeon and let them know your concerns.

You probably have r large ent if your nasal turbinates. They can be reduced by both surgical and non surgical methods. I recommend seeing a otolaryngologist who specializes in nasal airway work.

I recommend that you see your rhinoplasty surgeon since there could be an issue they will be able to address. They know exactly what structures were changed and if there are any grafts. Sometimes surgeons use implants which could develop an issue. If the surgeon does not find any issues with the nasal structures, then there are several things to help nasal congestion. Regular nasal saline rinses are very helpful. You can also try over the counter nasal steroids once or twice per day (takes 2 weeks of regular use to build up to its full effect). Nasal spray antihistamines are also helpful and they have immediate effect. At night after nasal steroid spray, applying a small amount of vaseline helps keep your nose from drying out. (Nasal dryness can worsen a sense of congestion) You may also consider an antacid such as pepcid at night since reflux can irritate the lining of the throat including the lining at the back of the nose.
