How long before you see the results of smart lipo?

Question

I had my surgery in the begging of may this year it is December now and I feel like I see no results. My tanks are still present and my abdomen is just as big as before and still loose. I am very upset and am wondering if I should try again with a different doctor.

Smart Lipo results should be evident almost immediately, although you can expect some swelling.  You should continue to see improvements out to 6 months or even a year, so you do need to be patient to see your final result.  In your question, however you mentioned that your abdominal area is "loose."  Without photos it's impossible to say for certain, but my concern is that you may have not been an appropriate candidate for Smart Lipo in the first place.  If you had skin and muscle laxity as in post-pregnancy or post-weight loss changes, you may have been a better candidate for a tummy tuck instead.  I find that patient selection is key in order to achieve good results.  If the procedure was the wrong procedure to address your problems, then you are not likely to get good results.  That is why I feel it's important to consult with a surgeon who does both Smart lipo as well as tummy tucks so that you will get an honest opinion about the right procedure for you.  Please follow up with your surgeon to address this concern.

It may take from weeks to months to achieve optimal visual appearance from SmartLipo. There are many surgical and non-surgical treatments for fat reduction or skin tightening such as vanquish, exilis, venous legacy, z wave/cellutone.  You should be getting massages to help as well.  Best, Dr. Emer

If you've gained weight, lose it. If not, post a few photos or email them to me privately. Sometimes you need more lipo, other times you need other procedures (tummy tuck, etc), but photos are necessary. Your results are not going to change this long after lipo.

Hi! It can take up to six months to see the final result.  If you have gained weight since your procedure the results will be alterted and you will still have fullness in the area. I would suggest you talk to your surgeon about your concerns. Best of luck to you!

Smart liposuction is often used for smaller amounts of liposuction, particularly if done under local anesthesia.  You should have seen some results within 2-4 weeks with final results almost complete at 3 months.  What you see now  is what you get.  Make sure you take into account any weight gain, if any.  If your procedure was done under local anesthesia, the results will be necessarily limited.

Your pre and post op pictures for comparison will help to comment. Usually you should see results in 6 months and it is unlikely going to change significantly after this period. If it does not work once it may not work second time. We need to determine if you are really candidate for smart lipo. Please consult with a other surgeon for evaluation and to discuss your goals.

there are several reasons why you may not have improved.1) you may have improved but you need to see both and after pics - otherwise you may have actually improved and not realized it.2) if you lose weight too, you will enhance the results. Conversely, if you put on weight, you still have fat cells in the treated area and they can swell and get larger if you put on weight.3) in about 5% of patients, i need to do a second treatment but that does mean that 90-95% of patients get improvement, often a very significant improvement.4) i would suggest you see a plastic surgeon who does Smartlipo for a second opinion david berman md
