Hi, I've had these prominent neck folds since I was a child, (age 20 now) and they don't show any sign of going away with age. I've tried working out, but still nothing. What are the options for me to reduce the appearance of the folds, or completely get rid of them. This is having a huge affect on my social life. Any advice is appreciated.
Answer: Deep neck folds..what can I do? Liposuction may be possible, but an exam would be necessary to determine if this would be useful at all. Kenneth Hughes, MDLos Angeles, CA

Answer: Neck Lines / Tech Neck / Neck Wrinkles -- Soft Fillers (Belotero) in combination w/ Lasers and Microneedling/PRP "Injecting soft fillers like Belotero in this area can reduce lines, wrinkles and folds as well as improve skin texture with long-term collagen production. Fillers are being used more frequently to contour and lift rather than solely line fill. Of course, fillers are best used in combination with lasers and microneedling with PRP to get the optimal outcome. I suggest getting a formal evaluation with a cosmetic dermatologist to create an individualized treatment plan that works for you. Best, Dr. Emer"

Answer: Deep Neck Folds The presence of banding down the front of the #neck, and, amount of excess skin and condition of your skin are among some factors which determine if you are a #candidate for #rejuvenating the neck. During an in-person examination, your chin will be evaluated along with the neck and jawline. A weak #chin implies a lack of chin support for the skin along the neck line. Per your photos, great amount of laxity is not evident. Nor is vertical banding . So, you may benefit from #non-surgical treatments. Liposuction may also be an #option. I suggest consulting with a board-certified plastic surgeon to learn about the #options and products available and as to which may be best for you.

Answer: Treating Neck Folds in Young Adult Although I would need to examine you in person to be more specific for your condition, your photo seems to show horizontal neck creases with some convex contour (fullness) between these creases. This is not a typical aging change, as you are very young and aging of neck tissue usually results in vertical folds and creases. Rather I think these creases may represent lines where the deep surface of the skin is held more tightly to the underlying muscle by fibrous bands, with the normal fat between these creases able to bulge outward slightly as it is not held inward as firmly. If so, this may be similar to the description of "cellulite", in which the dimples are thought to be due to skin and fat stuck closer to the muscle by fibrous bands. Therefore, liposuction might be helpful to remove any areas of fullness between the creases and also to disrupt the creases. Some of your own fat could possibly be transferred into the actual creases after disrupting them, to soften their appearance. Your condition is somewhat unusual and will require an individualized approach following a detailed examination and discussion.

Answer: Most neck creases can be filled in nicely with belotero. Belotero is a great filler for obvious neck creases and lasts about 6 months at a cost of $550/syringe. sincerely,David Hansen,MD
