How long will liposuction last?

I am 17 and fairly skinny all over but I've always had a small section of fat on my lower stomache and no matter how much I excercise it doesn't go away. what will happen as I get older??

Most liposuction results will last a long time as long as you do your part to exercise and diet appropriately. About every 10 yrs our metabolism slows down so exercising is more important as we get older to try to keep our metabolism up.

The improvement gained with liposuction contouring is generally long-lasting.  However, if you gain or lose a significant amount of weight the appearance could change.  Of course, age-related changes will happen to the skin whether or not you have liposuction.

Yes. Fat cells are destroyed and with liposuction and we don't replace those lost cells. It's important to maintain a good lifestyle with health eating habits and exercise because other fat cells in the body can expand to store fat, even though you don't grow new cells in the area that is suctioned.

Fat removed during liposuction is permanent.  However, there is no way to suction out all fat cells (and you really wouldn't want to).  Fluctuations in weight will be seen in all parts of the body, including areas that have had previous liposuction.  But if you maintain a healthy diet and lifestyle, you should be very happy with the result.

The results of body contouring from liposuction are usually stable but will be influenced by lifestyle choices and general health.  Any significant change in body weight after liposuction will influence the result as the fatty layer under the skin (subcutaneous), which is reduced in liposuction, will be affected by weight significant change.  The best way to prolong liposuction results, as well as any aesthetic procedure, is to avoid smoking, exercise regularly, strive for a healthy diet, reduce sun exposure on unprotected skin and continue a generally healthy lifestyle.

Having a small area of localized fat with good tone to the overlying skin in a young, healthy individual with proper expectations is an ideal scenario for a liposuction procedure. Assuming you do not gain weight after liposuction, it is unlikely that you will regain the fat in that location. You should discuss all the options with your plastic surgeon.

Liposuction will permanently change your fat cell distribution. You will still be able to gain and lose weight, but the areas treated should be stabilized and have less of a change with weight gain or loss.   Over time, our bodies change because of many factors like hormone levels, tissue aging, etc. Those changes still happen, but after liposuction the area treated will always be relatively smaller than before the treatment.We do more liposuction and fat transfer than any other procedure.  I prefer to do my liposuction with my patients awake, avoiding general anesthesia. It allows me to have my patients move into different positions, giving consistently good results.  We use no needles, no scalpels and no sutures.  The procedure and recovery are easy.
