Can I lose at least 10 lbs after lipo?

Iam 5'9 162lbs am considering lipo to help give me hour glass. Lipo of my stomach area. My question is this i really need ro loose about 5 to 10lbs can i achieve this with lipo. The last Dr i consulted with told me i can loose 10 to 15lbs with lipo but i dont see how thats possible

Dear nkeiru, It is highly unlikely that you will lose 10-15 lbs. from liposuction. Liposuction is NOT a weight loss procedure. It is for body shaping and sculpting. I would seek a second opinion from a BC PS. Good luck. Dr. Gervais.

Liposuction is not a weight loss solution. It will only affect your contour and the fat under the skin not the visceral fat that is inside your abdomen. The visceral fat can only be reduced by diet and the fat under the skin is the only one that can be removed with liposuction. In some areas, the fat under the skin is hard to lose with weight loss: lower abdomen, waist in women. Liposuction is ideal for those localized fat that you have hard time losing with diet and exercising. Fat is bulky but not heavy. So you will not lose much weight on a scale but you'll lose inches.

Thank you for your question. You should expect to lose less than 5 pounds after lipo. You will see a result in the way you look and the way your clothes fit, but may not see a big difference on the scale. Lipo is a body contouring procedure, not a weight loss procedure. Liposuction is not a weight loss procedure, though you may lose 3-5 pounds. Liposuction can be used for body sculpting and shaping. For best results, I recommend a hi definition procedure like VASER liposuction. I use VASER HI DEF with ThermiRF and fat grafting to get the most fat removal, skin tightening, contour and definition. This combination will give you the most toned result. It is important to remember that liposuction (irrespective of technique) is not a means of weight loss. Liposuction is a sculpting tool.
Traditional liposuction or SAL (Suction Assisted Lipoplasty) involves the use of a hollow metal tube called a cannula, which is inserted via series of small incisions. These cannulas are first used deliver a combination of local anesthetic and vasoconstrictor (to minimize bleeding). Once anesthetized, the cannula is used to disrupt the fat cells for subsequent aspiration. This technique can be augmented through the use of ultrasound or power (vibration) facilitating fat aspiration or laser. These are employed at the surgeon’s discretion.
With regards to your specific question, if you are seeking weight loss...liposuction is not the answer. Legal limits for office based procedures are anywhere from 4-5 liters (which equates to at most 11 lbs). One must remember that the aspirate obtained is not pure fat but a mix of fat, blood, and tumescent.In my experience, it is rare for patients to lose more than a few pounds post op. You will not exhibit a significant weight change post op. This is best obtained via traditional diet and exercise.

Thanks for the question and provided information as well.Liposuction is designed for pockets of stubborn fat and is not a method of weight loss. For this reason, it won't "make you lose weight" but rather recontour your body for a leaner, smoother profile. You should approach the surgery as a way to eliminate unwanted fat pockets instead of just to lose weight.l recommend you to make an appointment with a board certified plastic surgeon to talk about your goals and anything you need to know.
