Recovery time for abdominal liposuction with skin excision?

Thank you for your question. Healing after liposuction is usually pretty straight forward.  There is a process of swelling and bruising that peaks at 3 days after surgery and then undergoes the first stage of major resolution in the first 2 weeks after surgery.  The lateer phase of healing takes place over the 2-3 months after surgery where everything really settles and softens.  It is after this time that we are getting close to the final result, though this varies patient to patient.  The skin resection should not make much of a difference on the recovery time.

You should check with your plastic surgeon first, but it sounds like recovery will be about 2-3 weeks.

Recovery times for procedures depends on the extent of the surgery. You would do best to discuss this with your surgeon since no one knows what is being done better than he or she. Best of luck.

Thank you for your question! Liposuction alone only requires three to five days of downtime however, with skin excision you are looking at closer to seven days. Until the incision is fully healed, we recommend avoiding any strenuous activities. For best results you need to wear a garment four to six weeks post surgery. 

With high definition liposuction, recovery is at least a week. You will have swelling, which can last 3-6 months after your procedure. I recommend adding hyperbaric oxygen and lymphatic massage along with your compression to help decrease swelling. To improve your final results, I also recommend adding vanquish for further fat removal, exilis/venus legacy for skin tightening, cellutone/z wave to make the skin smooth, remove scar tissue, and improve the skin’s appearance. Denise.  Recovery from liposuction alone from those areas should only bring two or three days of down time. However additional skin excision may lengthen your recovery by a few days. I don’t recommend cardio exercise or weight training for at least 1 to 2 weeks after surgery. Discuss your recovery needs with your board-certified plastic surgeon. Good luck.

Thank you for your inquiry.   Recovery from abdominal liposuction is usually several days to a week.    I allow patients to return to work within that time frame and also allow light exercising beginning at 1 week.   They can increase their exercising as tolerates over the next week or 2.  Skin excision may prolong these times depending upon how much skin is removed.   Be sure to ask your plastic surgeon before your surgery.
