Question

I'm day 8 into recovery from Smart Lipo done to abdominal flanks upper and lower Abs and bra roll. I was wondering if it would be safe to go scuba diving after one month in July? I need to finish my Open Water certification before I go to Brazil for the Olympics in August and I was thinking because of the compression of the scuba garment it would be good for me but then not sure if the pressure would be an issue, I'm thinking by then I would be a lot less sore. right now I'm moving slow though

Thank you for your pictures.  Your results look fine thus far.  To ensure that you maintain long term results I would not that you go scuba diving at this point.  You may be able to begin that activity at week 6.  Best wishes.

I have my patients wait 4 weeks before going under water. I suggest you do the same unless your physician says differently.  Best, Dr. Emer.

You should always take the advice of your own physician when it comes to post-op recovery, but in my opinion I think it is reasonable to go scuba diving 4 weeks after smartlipo.  The incisions are tiny, and typically nearly completely healed by 4 weeks postop.

i let my patients shower the next day.also the very tiny incisions heal very rapidly. i would let you go in a pool after4 days and in the ocean after a week. i think it is without any medical basis that the doctors belowthink you should wait 4-6 weeks before you get in the water.i think this is one of those old wives tales, just like the old days whenpeople used to feel that getting sutures was bad for healing.i have done almost 600 Smartlipo cases.sincerelydavid berman md
