Rhinoplasty for dorsal hump removal - are the results immediate?

Many patients undergo rhinoplasty surgery to be liberated from their dorsal hump. When dorsal hump so removed, the profile appearance of somebody's nose as seen at the reveal one week after surgery is indicative of a long-term result. Hi from Istanbul, thanks for this question! If the dorsal hump is more than 5 millimeters, the reduction may take longer to finalize, typically within 6-12 months. This duration can vary based on the soft tissue coverage and skin thickness. While an immediate change is often visible, achieving the final contour might require additional time. Hope this helps!

As far as I can understand from your question we prefer open operation, because it is possible for the surgeon to intervene in every area. After the operation, the full shape of the nose may vary between 1 - 2 years depending on the skin structure.
It would be better face to face consultation.

Hello, if u get closed dorsal hump removal u ll see the effect immediately after surgery. because of swelling u have to wait least 6 months for final results

At the time of surgery, the surgeon removes the hump and it should be flat at that time. There is post op swelling but that goes down in a matter of a few weeks. You will immediately see the improvement.

With a rhinoplasty you should be able to see the results as soon as the bandage is removed. It will change over time but the hump shouid be noticeably gone when the nose is unveiled

Recovery after nasal dorsal hump removal:
The dorsum of the nose does show results much more quickly than the nasal tip, where the skin is thicker and the recovery process is much longer. However even in the bridge of the nose where the skin is thinner and recovery is quicker, there is still some swelling early on followed by some scar tissue buildup Which is called “callus“ in the first few months. The callus buildup may make it appear as if there is a tiny amount of residual Hump, perhaps 1/2 to 1 mm in thickness. If the original dorsal hump was large, then there will still be a very significant immediate improvement . Though the final test result will often take many months.

Removal of the dorsal hump immediately causes multiple issues which are an open roof deformity and a hanging columella. Medial and lateral Osteotomies placed in the nasal bones are required to close the open roof created from the hump removal itself. Trimming back to excess hanging columella will also usually be required. Spreader grafts are usually required to prevent the upper lateral cartilages from collapsing inwards after the hump removal as well. Full healing after a rhinoplasty takes one year, so the results are not immediate. A callus might form 6 to 10 months after the surgery, if it's going to happen.

When the bandaging is taken off a week later, you will notice an immediate change with the nose. After bandage removal, some swelling increases over the next few days since the bandages were keeping down some of the swelling. Then, the swelling starts to slowly dissipate again.

Callus formation, if it occurs, usually begins weeks after surgery during bony remodeling, so continued follow-up with your surgeon is warranted.

Most people will experience some improvement immediately after most cosmetic surgical procedures, but swelling may distort the outcome especially during the first few weeks or months.With rhinoplasty surgery, a small amount of swelling can have a big impact so we typically don’t consider results final until 12 months.
Patients will probably not see much difference after six weeks from the procedure.
