Rhinoplasty after having nose fillers in May. Should I get it dissolved or let it dissolve naturally?

I got a non surgical nose job in May this year. They used hydraulic acid. It’s been 4 months since I got it and now I’m looking into getting a rhinoplasty. My surgeon says he can’t tell yet until the filler is fully dissolved if he can go ahead with the procedure. He’s afraid the filler could make my internal skin in my nose weak and not suitable for it. Do you think it’s best to get it dissolved or wait and let it dissolve naturally? And do u think I can even get surgery after filler?

Hello and thank you for your question. Ideally, it is best to dissolve any residual hyaluronic acid filler to ensure the results of your rhinoplasty are precise. It is also important to note that surgical rhinoplasty is one of the most complex of all plastic surgery procedures. Make sure you work with a very experienced, board-certified facial plastic surgeon with expertise in rhinoplasty techniques to ensure the best possible results from your procedure.

Since it's been almost six months since your filler, you should be OK to go. Usually when the nose is opened up, any remaining filler can be seen and suctioned out. Be sure to see a surgeon that is very experienced in both fillers of the nose as well as surgery.

In most cases, people can have rhinoplasty surgery after having injectable fillers. If it was injected high on your bridge, it can usually be felt with two fingers. If your nose looks the same as pre-injection, go for it. If you still see HA filler in your nose, consider having it dissolved before surgery. Hope this helps. Dr Joseph

I have never had filler get in the way of performing rhinoplasty. If you are sure you want this surgeon doing the surgery it’s worth waiting out.

It is safe to have rhinoplasty after hyaluronic acid fillers. As your surgeon noted, it is difficult to assess the degree of correction required with filler in place. It would be best to have the filler dissolved and the nose re-examined by your surgeon to determine what needs to be done surgically to achieve the results you are seeking. Fortunately you have had filler that can be dissolved and not a permanent or non HA filler which is often a reason NOT to undergo rhinoplasty
