Should I stop taking vitamins before my PRP for hair loss treatment?

I need to know if I should stop taking vitamins before PRP procedure and for how long (before and after the procedure). I know that i should not take anti-inflamatory medication but I take methionin 500, cystein 500, biotin 1000, zinc 50 mg, B1 B2 B6 B12, Vitamin C 1 gr, Vitamin A 5000 IU, Vitamin E 30 IU Vitamin D 5000 IU (i have deficit of this) and Lysine daily Do I need to stop taking all those vitamins? some of them? none of them? The less would be the better . Thanks

In my experience you should not have to stop taking any vitamins before getting a PRP injection.  I have noted that the risk of bleeding is extremely low and I do not ask my patients to stop any of the vitamins that they take.

You shouldn't need to stop Vitamin supplementation for your PRP treatments. Vitamins B and C will be very beneficial to your PRP therapy. Supplements that cause blood-thinning are generally herbal, and Vitamin E in high DV% may contribute to thinning as well. While Vitamin supplementation is always a benefactor to hair restoration therapy, patients should not be completely reliant on them to supplement a poor diet. Thank you for your question. Multivitamins are okay to keep taking, however there are some vitamins such as fish oils, vitamin E, and  omega 3 that cause the patient to bleed more and bruise. We would recommend stopping those supplements anywhere from 7-10 days before your PRP procedure. Good luck. If you are considerating transplant than review your meds with a surgeon

If  one is using the subdermal depo injection technique, there is not much chance for bruising. From your list of vitamins, only the vitamin d will need to be stopped 7 to 14 days prior to the PRP. Good luck.

I recommend asking your practitioner about their protocol, but you should not have to stop taking your vitamins before prp. Prp is effective, but I have a very specific protocol, every 3-4 weeks for 6 months with prp therapy. I also add in progesterone to speed the healing process.  After that the injections are tailored down. It is recommended to stop blood thinning agents such as Vitamin E, Vitamin A, Ginko, Garlic, Flax, Cod Liver Oil, Niacin supplements, Essential Fatty Acids, and Multivitamins at least 7 days prior to treatment and 7 days after your treatment. You should also avoid Aspirin, Advil, Motrin, Ibuprofen, Naproxen, and Voltaren one week prior to treatment and after as well. You may take Tylenol.

You should be able to continue your vitamins prior to your procedure.  I may ask my patients to hold  some supplements for a few days to a week that can thin the blood before injections. These are garlic, ginseng, ginko biloba.  Avoid alcohol the day prior to injections for the same reason.

There is no need to stop these supplements. Vitamin D is an anabolic hormone that will only help to stimulate stem cell migration so it would only hinder the healing to stop it. I typically add a multi mineral and digestive enzyme and order labs to address other hormone and nutritional deficiencies that may cause hair loss.

You’ll want to ask the physician performing the procedure. Often there is no great need for most vitamins. Be sure to ask the doctor as everyone has his or her preference.
