Hi, I have been on PRP and Spiro for about 2 months and still have not seen any progress - should I continue to wait. When is it time for me to move on to another process - 30 year old African American female.
Answer: Hair grows slowly and it takes patience to see if therapy is working. On average, scalp hair grows about 1 cm/month or about 1/3 of an inch. Hair growth is a slow and usually frustrating process that requires a lot of patience and perseverance. Whether you are using minoxidil, PRP, Spironolactone or other treatments, you must simply wait for 3-6 months of growth at a minimum before knowing if it a therapy is helping. For our male patients who are taking finasteride (Propecia) we often don't see the full effect of the medication for up to 2 years after they've starting taking it. We encourage our patients to commit to three PRP treatments and then come in for a follow up visit no sooner than 3 months after the last treatment to determine how well they are responding. We also utilize the Hair Check device to measure smaller increases in growth that can’t be see easily through photos. Be patient and don't give up, this is a lifelong commitment.

Answer: PRP for hair restoration It takes 3-4 months to see results from PRP for hair. Most injectors use a very low concentration PRP and results aren't nearly as good with this. I use a 6x PRP which is what gives the maximum results. I also add ACell or amniotic membrane to improve the results. Microneedling at the end will also help. The problem is that machines which yield high concentrations of PRP are expensive and that makes the cost more to the patient. Females should need only 1-2 treatments to see results which last 12-18 months.
