Weird sensations 8 months after tummy tuck. What could this be? (Photo)

It is very common to have odd sensations in the abdomen after abdominoplasty and liposuction. These are called parathesias and are typically self limiting, and usually disappear after a year or so. The sensations are secondary to the sensory nerves being injured during the surgery and them trying to reestablish their connections. There’s nothing to worry about and symptomatic treatment helps. It is not abnormal to have "abnormal" sensations in the lower abdomen after tummy tuck surgery. While patients typically first note numbness, as the nerve endings begin to wake up it is common to have zinging/shooting/electric-type sensations. What you are describing sounds like a normal part of the healing process and likely to improve. Obviously, you should rule out pregnancy if this is a possibility!

The feelings that you describe are not uncommon and not worrisome. They are simply nerve sensations related to your surgery. They will likely lessen in frequency and intensity with time.

Some of your sensory nerves are trying to grow back, but are in areas of scar tissue. Instead of normal sensations, you are getting something else. this should calm down in time.

Most patients will have some permanent numbness of their lower abdomen after a full tummy tuck.
Some sensation will return, and this process can give unusual sensations. The process can continue for a couple of years after the procedure. This is not abnormal.
Eventually, most people get used to the numbness as being the new normal.
