Tear trough filler - if I’ve suffered Tyndall Effect once, will it happen again?

The bluish discoloration that can be seen after fillers, or Tyndall effect is due to superficial placement of the filler and not the filler itself. If injected by an experienced physician then likelihood of getting a Tyndall effect again is slim. Make sure you see an expert physician. Best wishes.

The Tyndall effect occurs when HA fillers are inappropriately injected into the superficial dermis or epidermis regardless if you use a cannula or not. I suggest seeing an expert injector. Best, Dr. Emer

Hello NM.  The Tyndall effect occurs not because of your anatomy or skin but because fo the depth that the product is placed in the skin.  If the filler used for under eye injections is placed on top of the muscle that surrounds the eye, it often looks puffy and creates the Tyndall effect.  If it is injected deeper in the fatty layer under the muscle, the Tyndall effect is not present.  In addition, this issue is not affected by whether a cannula or needle is used as it is about the depth of placement.  When considering a new injector, find one that has good before and after photos of the under eye area (like the ones at the link below) before deciding to move forward.  Restylane is a preferred product as it has the right consistency for the under eye area.

The Tyndall effect occurs because the product is placed too superficial (or close to the surface) in the tissue. If the product is placed correctly, you should not have this issue. I would recommend finding an experienced injector in your area who will have a one on one consultation with you to make sure your concerns are addressed! Take care!

the tyndall effect occurs when the product is injected too superficially. It does not matter whether it was injected with a needle or a cannula. It depends on the skill of the injector.  It is not likely to happen again if the product is placed correctly.
