Could the extra swelling and soreness be part of the rhino healing process or infection?

It is not abnormal to have areas that feel tight or sore as they heal especially in the bony areas of your nose. If you think that you may be having sinus issues, that can occur as a result of the surgery but should resolve over time. In either case, I would follow up with your concerns with your rhinoplasty surgeon.

It can be normal for swelling to go up and down after rhinoplasty for several months. But you should check with your surgeon to make sure nothing more serious is going on.

The discomfort in your nose three months after a Rhinoplasty may not be infection, unless if you have a dorsal nasal implant. Certainly visit your surgeon so you can obtain a diagnosis and be treated appropriately. Hope this helps. Dr. Joseph 

Hi and thank you for your inquiry. I'm sorry to hear you are experiencing discomfort. It's normal after a rhinoplasty, to experience bruising and swelling. The final healing time can take up to 1 year. I suggest you address your concerns at your upcoming appointment with your doctor. It is too soon to say that there is a problem.

In the usual course of events, a rhinoplasty procedure is shortly followed with some swelling and soreness in the mid face region, so it is not abnormal having skin areas feeling tense and sore as they undergo healing particularly in the bony areas of your nose. As mentioned in the question that you had your procedure about three months ago, you should have most of the swelling resolved by now and it should be only slightly noticeable. I would advise you to consult your plastic surgeon for a personalized evaluation and discuss your concerns.I hope this helps.

Three months after surgery you should not be experiencing any discomfort, while minor swelling could be persistent.  Please reach out to your plastic surgeon, as we surgeons are always happy and available to meet with our patients to evaluate their healing progress.  Thank you for your question and best of luck to you.

Hey yojanagt.  I am sorry that you are feeling some discomfort with your post operative phase.  I would suggest getting in touch with your PS office.  You may need an antibiotic and another evaluation. Always best to double check there first before letting the nose flare up more and have a possible larger infection or any other complication resulting in poor results. 

Thank you for your question. Since you have new onset of soreness and swelling, it would be important for you to have it checked over by your surgeon. You would need to be examined to find out the possible cause.
