This should be fine. Shaving can irritate the skin or cause small cuts so be careful. Wash with antibacterial soap the night before surgery.
Your question with regards to shaving before surgery is excellent. It is my understanding that the data suggeststhat no patient should shave themselves with a razor within 24 hours of thetime of surgery. The rationale is basedupon infectious complications. That beingsaid, it is your own prerogative whether you wish to shave prior to thistime.I wish you the best of luck.
YES, but.Obviously, this question is for your plastic surgeon to answer as each plastic surgeon has his or her own pre-op shaving protocol. That being said, if you were my patient and since I only do my breast augmentations through the armpit, I would have you shave your armpits the morning of surgery. Waxing five or six days before is fine. However, shaving the night before is a bad idea. Shaving the night before sets up a possible scenario where you nick the skin and bacteria populate the skin overnight. During my 35 years of plastic surgery and my over 6,000 breast augmentations, I have had no infections that were directly or indirectly related to armpit bacteria.
Shaving is fine before breast augmentation. I would however, hold off for about 48 hours before your surgical date in case you break the skin and cause a skin irritation or worse a small infection. Congrats on setting the date for the breast augmentation.
Shaving the skin immediately prior to surgery has been shown to increase the risk of a surgical site infection, which would conclude that shaving immediately prior to surgery can introduce bacteria into the skin and potentially the bloodstream. I assume you will be shaving areas other than your breasts and you should be fine, but I would recommend doing so at least 24 hours before your surgery, 48 if possible, and then not shaving again for at least a couple days after surgery. Check with your surgeon for his/her specific recommendations. Best of luck with your surgery!
Thank you for your question. Yes, you can shave your body before your breast augmentation surgery without any increased risk. If the area to be operated on was hair-bearing, we now use clippers instead of shaving, as shaving resulted in too many nicks to the skin that could predispose to an infection. Hope this helps.
Studies have shown that bacterial colonization on your skin after shaving is greatest about 4-24 hours after shaving. It is fine to shave over 24 hours before surgery. If you are within 24 hours of surgery, it is safest for your surgeon to shave you right before the procedure. I encourage my labiaplasty patients to get a brazilian wax the week before the procedure (but not the day before). I encourage my tummy tuck patients to get a bikini wax or shave their upper pubic region the week before a tummy tuck (but not the day before).
Thank you for the question. I will typically ask my patients not to shave within at least 24 hours of the procedure due to the increased risk of infectious complications. The shaving can be done at the time of the procedure without any increased risk of infection. I hope this helps. Good luck.
Yes, you should be able to shave normally prior to surgery. You will find however that your plastic surgeon will have specific "do's and don'ts" for you. Always best to address preoperative and postoperative instructions directly with your plastic surgeon. Best wishes on outcome that you will be very pleased with.
Great question. Shaving is only important to the specific surgery areas. Although shaving to other parts of the body should not be a problem, I would double check with your plastic surgeons office just to make sure however. All the best,Dr Remus Repta
That is a great question. It is important that you share the specific ingredients of your vitamins with your plastic surgeon in advance. The particular content of your own prenatal vitamins might differ from others. It will be best for you to discuss the specific medications which you are taking...
This is a very common question. Following placement of a breast implant the surrounding tissue stretch which in turn stretches the nerves of the breast. Stretching can cause some temporary damage to the outer layer of the nerves which will heal in time. While recovery is in progress patients...
You should talk to your doctor as only he/she knows your medical history and your treatment plan. Although capsular contractures following breast augmentation can occur just about any time, most women start having symptoms around three months after their breast implant surgery. This is...
