My PS told me that his injections DID NOT cause my outbreak. I do NOT agree. He said it's been 6 weeks and the product has already dissolved? How can that be? This has been a nightmare. Will my lips ever be normal again? They had gone down after 2 weeks but I still felt lumps and then the herpes breakout.

Answer: Cold Sores after Restylane Silk Thank you for your question and for submitting your photos. Cold sores can be triggered by any sort of trauma to the lips, though these outbreaks typically start within a few days of treatment. It's a little strange to experience an outbreak 6 weeks after filler injections. I generally recommend that all patients with a history of cold sores take antiviral medications before and after lip fillers to prevent outbreaks. I would recommend following-up with your injector to discuss your concerns - Restylane Silk can be dissolved with hyaluronidase if needed. Best of luck!

Answer: Restylane filler for lips If you have a history of cold sores, any type of trauma in the area can re-activate a cold sore. It is not the Restylane product that causes it, but the trauma from the needles and massaging. You should take antiviral medication before any future injections. Once the cold sores resolve, you should have your lip filler re-assessed to make sure it is even.
