I am 21 years old and weigh 118 pounds. I hate how far apart my breasts are. I do not want to have that large of implants, just enough to fill out my chest and notice through a shirt.

Answer: Breast implant sizing One of the most frequent and most important questions that people ask when deciding to undergo breast augmentation is "what size implant is best for me?" The short answer is that there is no short answer. There are a multitude of factors that go into selecting breast implants. These include: what type of appearance does the patient desire (more "natural," more "fake," or more "augmented"); the patient's own anatomy (height, weight, chest circumference, breast width, scoliosis), and the patient's tissue characteristics (tighter breast, prior breast feeding, weight loss history, shape and development of the breast). All of these elements must be assessed in person. Since every woman has her own unique combination of these factors, the majority of Plastic Surgeons spend a significant amount of time working through all of these elements during the consultation and pre-operative process. We utilize several systems to help a woman choose her implants . These include trying on specially designed implants in different styles of clothing (volumetric sizing), taking multiple measurements and evaluating her tissues, and then putting this altogether with a 3-D stimulator so that each patient can visualize a projected outcome following surgery. This is been a very effective process for our patients to achieve the results that she desires.

Answer: Breast augmentation Hello and thank you for your question. You are a great candidate for a breast augmentation. The size, profile, and shape of the implant is based on your desired breast size/shape, your chest wall measurements, and soft tissue quality. This decision should be based on a detailed discussion with equal input from both you and your surgeon. This entire surgery can be performed with a small incision technique. Make sure you specifically look at before and after pictures of real patients who have had this surgery performed by your surgeon and evaluate their results. The most important aspect is to find a surgeon you are comfortable with. I recommend that you seek consultation with a qualified board-certified plastic surgeon who can evaluate you in person. Best wishes and good luck. Richard G. Reish, M.D. Harvard-trained plastic surgeon
