Had rhinoplasty 3 weeks ago to reduce a dorsal hump and raise my nose tip. I know swelling can distort the results and last a long time, however, what I'm seeing doesn't seem like swelling. The bridge of my nose is higher than it was before, and the area above where the hump used to be is now raised, and looks like a bump from certain angles. This bump and the entire bridge of my nose, is rock hard like bone. Doesn't feel swollen at all. Why is it like this?
Answer: New bump Overall I think it looks improved but I see what you mean. It is possible that your sugeon added something (probably cartilage) above the hump in order to hide it. If so there was not enough added. There is more than one way to "skin a cat" or get rid of a hump. One way is to lower the hump, the other is to raise the area above it. Ask your surgeon to discuss with you exactly what was done and why you are dissappointed.

CONTACT NOW Answer: Dorsal Hump Hi @nosechan! 3 weeks is very early on in the healing process. Swelling can last up to 1 year. A radix graft was probably placed to make the bump less noticeable. It will take time for this to smoothen out and settle. Best of luck to you!

Answer: May Resolve In Time After a rhinoplasty surgery, the bony parts of the nose may become swollen as well as the softer parts. It’s a bit early to say that this is a permanent occurance. If it’s swelling, it may subside and reslove on its own. Each part of the nose may react differently to the surgery. Waiting a few more months before making a clear decision would be better. You should also address this issue with your surgeon when you go to your next check up. Hope this helps,Ali Rıza Öreroğlu, MD FEBOPRASEuropean and Turkish Board Certified Aesthetic, Plastic and Reconstructive SurgeonIstanbul, Turkey

Answer: Dorsal hump after rhinoplasty Hello, Thank you for your excellent question. Three weeks are not enough time for evaluation of the rhinoplasty surgery. During this time,The dorsal hump can be fixed with 2-3 mm. A bit of rest excess can be removed 6-8 months after a surgery. Small intervention may be required. Dorsal hump becomes more visible when tip nose falls down with subsiding of the surgery edema . Best Regards, Dr.Bora Ok Certified Plastic Surgeon

Answer: You had a radix graft So, your nose will look better than you started but probably not quite get to where you wanted. You had somewhat of a "pseudobump" meaning that most of your "bump" was due to the upper part of your nose (between your eyes) being much too close to your face. This also made your nose "start" too low; it starts where it begins moving away from your face on profile view. So, your surgeon probably put a radix graft on the upper part of your nose to make your nose start at a more appropriate height (it should start around the level of your upper eyelashes), and by filling above your bump, it makes the bump less obvious. This was a good thing for your surgeon to do and I know it seems a little too full now, it will smooth out over time. I do think he/she should have also taken more of your bump down though. You might need a revision to further rasp down your bump. Discuss this with your surgeon and try to be patient and wait at least a year from your surgery before any revision surgery.

Answer: Residual dorsal hump after rhinoplasty surgery. Thank you for sharing your question and photographs. As you likely know, healing from rhinoplasty takes a very long time. After only three weeks it's not possible to determine what visual changes are caused by swelling and what may be persistent dorsal hump, overprojection of the nasal bones or dorsal septum cartilage, or widening of the nasal bones. Continue to follow your surgeons postoperative activity restrictions and postoperative care strictly and be sure to maintain long term follow up with your surgeon. Try to be patient and remain optimistic. But, keep in mind that a small number of all patients undergoing rhinoplasty surgery will need a revision.
