Will my ability to play intense sports be affected after a rib rhinoplasty and revision septoplasty?

Thank you for your question.  Once you are fully healed from your rhinoplasty, you should be able to play sports as before.  I almost always have my patients wait at least 4 weeks before starting strenuous exercise, and I would discuss when to start back with your surgeon.  Even after surgery, you will still need to be careful with any type of contact sport. A hard hit to the nose can cause damage, whether or not you have had surgery. I hope that this helps.-David Gilpin

As for being able to play sports, I advise my patients to do it a month after surgery. Your nose should be just as durable as your own nose after about 6 months. But you still need to be careful as it may be more complicated to fix if anything happens to your nose.

Thank you for your question.  You should be able to return to sports, even competitive sports, after rib grafting and rhinoplasty.  Often times a rhinoplasty will improve nasal airflow; therefore, you may even play better!

Once the tissues have been healed from rhinoplasty, it should not limit your ability to play sports. In fact, if you have a breathing problem, and it is fixed, your breathing should be better after surgery.

Once you are fully healed from a rib graft harvest, you should have no problem participating in any type of physical activity due to chest wall concerns. Such rhinoplasty procedures do not cause breathing difficulties and may even improve your nasal breathing. Whether you want to risk getting hit in the nose from contact sports after a rib graft rhinoplasty is a personal decision. Such trauma to the nose may or may not cause it to develop a traumatic deformity.
